The good news is though even the theme and sub-theme growth are estimated at 9% and 7% respectively, making it a very steadily increasing investment. Thanks to the Unplottable Charm placed on the house it can only be seen by wizards and doesn’t appear on any maps. I love the work that LEGO does by taking source material with human figures in it and adapting it to minifigure form instead, and this is a great example. As a theme, LEGO Harry Potter has been delivering some stand-out LEGO sets in recent years and it is pretty clear that 76408 12 Grimmauld Place is the latest such creation. Her black jacket features lovely metallic silver buttons and reflects the original character, including accurate red fabric inside her hood too.

Also included is a very orange version of Hermione’s cat Crookshanks, which is an interesting addition, given Hermione is absent from this set.

Finally, LEGO Harry Potter is venturing to places that the theme has never been to before and, with that, comes sets like 76408 12 Grimmauld Place – new, interesting and wholly unique. Harry and Tonks both have a additional face prints (Kingsley’s hat doesn’t cover the back of the head, so dual face print doesn’t work for him). Of course, that limited space is also problematic and reflects the surprisingly small size of this structure. While the front had three different houses (numbers 11-13), the inside all covers scenes from 12 Grimmauld Place. Maybe that’s not an emotion that Fred and George know of, because their alternative faces show them laughing – just as you’d expect it from the twins.

There are many magical locations to discover within, including Sirius Black’s room, the Black family tree tapestry and the piano where Ron and Hermione practice playing. A couple of goblets are placed on top of the cupboard, but it would have been nice with maybe some kitchen utensils hanging from the wall as well? LEGO has in recent years been busy releasing LEGO Harry Potter sets that cover characters or locations that had previously not been represented in LEGO. Unlike with the Ministry, you could potentially display Grimmauld Place from the back because it has a doll-house style interior with lots of details that ostensibly fit together. The design and colors remain true to the source material, with the “traitors” to the Black family scratched out of the tree, although there should be a skull for Regulus instead of a regular head. The LEGO Group will also point to how some of those not in 76408 12 Grimmauld Place do appear in other LEGO Harry Potter sets currently available. That elevates the appearance/disappearance of the middle part of the build from a nice-to-have play feature to a core requirement. Some have expressed concern that this design would feel fragile, but I have found it adequately strong. One level up, we find two sitting room-like rooms containing a large armchair and a piano, and then off to the right is the room with the Black family tree.

Kreacher’s print is more simple, while Molly’s print also extends onto her legs and is best characterised as a very Molly-ish style. The Lego set doesn't increase at the same rate as the actual thing it's representing so the set is a bit underwhelming. The middle story has the piano that Hermione attempts to teach Ron to play on while Harry, Ron, and Hermione are hiding at Grimmauld Place during the Deathly Hallows.
