Ernst Neufert was a German architect who is known as an assistant of Walter Gropius, as a teacher and member of various standardization organizations, and especially for his essential handbook Architects' data.It also looks at the design styles and specifications for creating different types of structures, such as those made for residential, commercial, religious, cultural, sports, medical and other types of occupation. The first English version was published in 1970 and was translated from the original German by Rudolf Herz. Dealing mostly with ergonomics and with functional building layouts, thousands of drawings illustrate the text, organised according to building typologies. Organised largely by building type (from airports to zoos), it covers user requirements, planning criteria, basic dimensions and considerations of function and siting.

Neufert's Architects' Data is an essential reference for the initial design and planning of a building project. Teaching at Weimar's Bauhochschule from 1926 after graduating from the Bauhaus, Ernst Neufert began to collect data about building, in a way of rationalization. The Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca worked on the rationalization of architecture within his piece "Neufert Suite" in 1998.There are additional sections on building components, services and building physics, fire protection, and designing for the disabled. Since it was first published in Germany in 1936, Ernst Neufert's handbook has been progressively revised and updated through 39 editions and many translations. Most illustrations are dimensioned and each building type includes plans, sections, site layouts and design details.

Most illustrations are dimensioned, and each building type includes plans, sections, site layouts and design details.I used it for everything - but the thermal properties of various materials was a particularly useful part.

Architects' Data, 6 th Edition starts with the basics of designing for a new building project, before moving on to covering everything an architect needs to know. This is a true first edition, first printing (first impression) in a good original jacket with some rubbing and wear to the extremities.Organised largely by building type, and with over 6000 diagrams, it provides a mass of data on spatial requirements and also covers planning criteria and considerations of function and siting. The book is conceived to help the initial design of buildings by providing extensive information about spatial requirements. This fourth English language edition is translated from the 39th German edition, and represents a major new edition for an international, English speaking readership.
