NOTE: To eliminate any potential confusion, the second grooved spacer in the picture below is for the Mac Ride, which we left on to facilitate comparisons between the seats for this review. Watch professional mountain biker Sam Blenkinsop take his daughter Indie go for a ride on the Shotgun Pro… Ensuring a smooth and stable riding experience for both parent and child is essential. Let’s compare the riding experiences offered by the Mac Ride and the Shotgun Pro. Mac Ride’s Riding Experience

Since the original seat was launched in 2017 the Kids Ride Shotgun brand have seen a big increase in the use of e-MTBs around the world and a large amount of mountain biking families wanting to fit the Shotgun child seat to high-end carbon fibre mountain bikes. Read more Dropper Post: If you have a dropper post, you can absolutely use the Shotgun Pro. However, you do need 10 mm of space between your bike’s seat clamp and the dropper post’s seal head.Installing a child bike seat should be a straightforward process to ensure convenience and ease of use. Let’s compare the installation methods of the Mac Ride and the Shotgun Pro. Mac Ride’s Installation Process Seat Post: The clamp needs 10 mm of vertical space on the seat post, so if you ride with the seat all the way down, you will have to raise your seat slightly. The Mac Ride can accommodate children up to 60 pounds, while the Shotgun Pro has a maximum weight limit of 48 pounds.

Headset (Total Spacer Height): In our testing, we discovered that the total number and the total height of the spacers under your stem will also impact fit. Once the Shotgun Pro spacer is installed, there must be clearance between the Shotgun Pro’s front clamp and your stem when the handlebars rotate. The Shotgun Pro seat is suitable for dropper posts and all popular seatpost sizes, including 27.2mm, 30.9mm, 31.6mm and 34.9mm. Mounting requires 14mm of available seatpost space. It’s important to note that when using the handlebars, your child is in a more upright position than if they are leaning forward to grab onto your handlebars. For really young and small riders, this is probably more comfortable for them to not have to lean forward so far. Suitable for regular and electric bikes - With adjustable leg width, the Shotgun Pro is suitable for use on regular and electric bikes with wide down tubes. The Shotgun Pro includes two spacers for use on two bikes. Installing the Shotgun Pro spacer replaces 10mm standard stem spacers on the bike. Our only potential critique on the Shotgun Pro would come from the space needed beneath the stem. For some riders, 20+mm of spacers is a lot. We know one parent that was almost too shy on enough extra steerer tube to fit the system. Riders might be able to replace the larger bolt head, designed to be tightened by hand, with a lower profile one that takes a wrench. This might grant better clearance. For us, it was not an issue so we didn't feel compelled to explore it.

The Mac Ride excels in providing a comfortable seat for your child. It comes with a soft and cushioned seat pad, ensuring a pleasant ride. The adjustable seat position allows you to find the perfect fit for your child, ensuring optimal comfort throughout the journey. Additionally, the Mac Ride’s design minimally affects the parent’s riding position, making it a comfortable experience for both rider and child. Shotgun Pro’s Comfort Features Yes, the Mac Ride and Shotgun Pro are designed to be compatible with most adult bikes, ensuring versatility and flexibility in usage. This position did, however, stretch her son out a bit more on the bike. Above you can see him leaning forward more on the Shotgun Pro, while he’s still pretty upright on the Mac Ride. This won’t be as comfortable for very young riders, but Lauren and her son still had an epic 7.5 mile ride with this set up.Today we’re taking a closer look at the all-new Shotgun Pro MTB Child Seat from biker-owned brand ‘Kids Ride Shotgun’ who are a small team of mountain bike parents from the North Island of New Zealand who came together with a global vision to raise the next generation of mountain bikers. Each time you remove the MTB seat, you also have to release the rail latch to shorten the horizontal rail to allow for space to take off the seat. And then of course lengthen the rail and close the latch when you’re attaching the seat to your bike. So what led the Kids Ride Shotgun brand to develop their original Shotgun child seat and why did they feel it was better to have their children positioned on the front of the bike rather than than on the rear like traditional bicycle child seats?.. Bikes take a little bit longer as we want to ensure they arrive with you in perfect condition, and so will take the time to inspect them before delivery. As a small but significant bonus, the legs are surrounded in a rubber sleeve to protect the frame of your bike. The Mac Ride doesn’t have frame protectors on its legs and we did ding our frame once as a result.
