You might not be able to pop it in the oven, but for the price, it’s a great all-rounder to keep in your cupboard. Rather than needing a separate cooker hoodabove your cooking area, or a downdraft extractor installed behind the hob, an air extraction hob does both jobs. So when you’re cooking, there is a fan in the centre of the unit which can get rid of smoke, smells and steam as soon as it appears, before it emerges into your kitchen. Heat distribution was good, and the pan was easy to use with a comfy handle and not too much weight when carrying it around. While hand-washing is recommended to keep it in the best condition, it will survive the dishwasher when you’re in a rush. We found that we had to manually clean the surface a couple of times to remove stubborn debris, though, so you may need to soak it after an intensive griddling session. The most common option is dials and knobs, so you can either set the power at increments or freely by turning them. Some flat designs, such as ceramic or induction, will have touch controls or sliders instead. Think of what you prefer, what you’re used to and if you’re willing to learn a new style. How to Choose A Cooker Hob Wok burners – Often found on gas hobs. Larger in size to accommodate woks, and often more powerful for higher heats

Take your cooking to the next level with our ever popular range of Rangemaster compatible griddles. Providing flexibility when cooking a variety of cuisines and healthy dishes we have griddle solutions for both gas and induction hobs. Follow the guide below to find out which of our range cookers are compatible with our griddles. Teppanyaki Griddle Griddle pans come in all shapes and sizes and while they can be made from a variety of materials – ceramic, stainless steel or aluminium, for example – there are generally two types:

The general layout of the hobs is one large, two medium and one simmer zone. Cooking zones and their layout will matter to you if you have large pots and pans, or if you want to merge some together. Hob Control Type On the plus side, its size is big enough for family cooking and there’s a five-year guarantee, meaning it’s a pan you can feel really good about. Due to the properties of cast iron the griddle can be used on gas cookers, AGA / solid top cookers and BBQs and is oven safe. It is incredibly easy to clean by pre-soaking in warm water. It is not recommended for dishwasher use or using detergent for cleaning. The induction griddle is compatible with our next generation induction models that feature a bridging zone. The bridging zone joins two cooking zones together to make one large zone, meaning you can cook even more food in a variety of ways. The grooved griddle is perfect for everything from steak, to prawns, to aubergine and toasted sandwiches! The most common is 60cm wide with four cooking zones, but there are also plenty of 70cm wide five zone hobs. Most can fit into a 60cm standard space and will overlap on the kitchen bench, which is ideal if you need more space without changing things too much.

Gas hobsare really the only alternative to the electric models, the variations of which are underneath. They are like grill pans which are built-in to your kitchen surface, so you can fry steaks, fish, vegetables and even rice or egg without the need for a pan. Taking inspiration from Japanese cooking, they are usually hotter than ordinary hobs, and a lot more spacious. These are kind of a hob, but you will probably actually need a dedicated hob at the same time, so a teppanyaki essentially complements a cooking setup. There are also 80cm and 90cm hobs available, but if you don’t have an existing space for these, it could require a lot of work to fit them into your kitchen. Also known as sealed electric hobs. They are the best-known form of electric hob, easiest to use and often the cheapest too. Solid Plate Hob Pros For the most authentic chargrilled stripes and sizzling flavour, you should consider this reasonably priced round griddle pan from Stellar. Not only does it boast an attractive long wooden handle and traditional styling, but the pan’s surface also has sharp ridges for perfect searing. Any food we cooked on it emerged from the pan with deep brown marks and a tangible, smoky flavour. It retained and distributed heat well too – every part of the pan sizzled the ingredients. Good design is also important, which is why we make a note of things such as pouring lips, which enable excess fat to be poured away, as well as extra handles to carry the pan and handles that are comfortable to grip. These tend to be pretty pricey at times, and will generally need a bit more attention when it comes to installation and maintenance. Air Venting Hob Pros

As the name suggests, there are two sides to the griddle. One side is ridged to give food a seared/stripy finish with channels to drain away excess fat and the other side is flat and can be used as a hot plate for cooking anything from eggs to scotch pancakes. Hobs are also a great idea if you have a kitchen island and want a relatively large cooking top space, as opposed to a range or smaller cooker. The Elise range cooker collection also has a bespoke designed griddle that is compatible to the gas hob. Here are some essential points you can use as a guide when you come to buying your next hob top, or upgrading your current system… Number of Hob Cooking Zones We hope you’ve found this guide useful in hunting down the perfect hob for your kitchen use. Find a look that’s clean – and is easy to clean, too – as well as which comes with the cooking zones and controls which are going to make life easier for you.

We rate each pan based on how well it holds heat and its heat distribution – the best pans will maintain a relatively consistent temperature across the entire surface area, with no cold spots. We also take into consideration cooking surface size, whether it is induction compatible and how easy it is to clean after the fact. While we would normally factor in if cookware was dishwasher-safe, in this case we have made it less of a consideration: this is because non-coated pans shouldn’t be put in the dishwasher. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned.
