German epic death metal band Grailknights released the album Return to Castle Grailskull, picturing them on the album cover in front of "Castle Grailskull" (resembling the sculpt used in the 2002 MOTU toyline). In the first video clip from that album, "Moonlit Masquerade", they perform on a CGI-generated Castle Grayskull. The band's live shows include characters who resemble Skeletor and other MOTU figures. When the Great Eye opens, Skeletor absorbs an enormous amount of power from the universe and is transformed into an armored warrior god, proclaiming himself "Master of the Universe". He continues to try to force He-Man to swear allegiance to him, but is interrupted by the arrival of He-Man's friends, Kevin and Lubic, who arrive through a portal that they managed to open. He-Man is freed, and along with his friends engages Skeletor's forces in combat. Lubic, despite not understanding what is going on, defeats several of Skeletor's minions with his shotgun. Evil-Lyn, Karg, and Beast Man decide to desert Skeletor and escape. He-Man breaks Skeletor's staff, causing him to lose his newfound powers. Skeletor continues to engage He-Man with his sword, but as a result, is vanquished by falling into a deep pit. Ideal for ages 14+ The castle is surrounded by a bottomless abyss, which doubles as a moat in at least one episode, and a Jawbridge (a drawbridge formed by the lowerjaw of the castle's "mouth") is used to come across it. When Prince Adam transforms into He-Man, sparks shoot up from the abyss towards He-Man's sword. This phenomeneon is seen in the episode Into the Abyss, when Teela falls into the abyss and witnesses this spectacle from a unique vantage point. In the same episode, He-Man states that the abyss actually leads to the center of Eternia.

The architectural style of the castle in the film is very different from the original depictions of the castle. The exterior is rarely seen, and much of the action relating to the castle takes place within the castle. The marble surfaces are smooth, and of a golden tan color. The place has a clean, well lit, high-tech appearance in some respects. This contrasts with the ancient green and grey, cyclopean masonry and stonework of the original castle. The Sorceress is clothed in long white robes, with feather-like strands of white fabric hanging from her arms as a homage to the original design, although they are only visible in the scene where she waves goodbye to the characters of Julie and Kevin. Rather than a bird-like headpiece, crystals are placed throughout the Sorceress' long, silver hair like a crown. Skeletor is depicted as commanding a huge army of armored soldiers. In the animated series, his only assistants were the Evil Warriors, who were not entirely under his command. He commanded smaller robot soldiers, but they were non-humanoid and displayed no capability for speech or intelligence. In some ways, the film depiction is more akin to the Evil Horde. An episode of New Captain Scarlet is called "Grey Skulls", which involves two motorcycle gangs, one of which is based in Roswell.In the Filmation series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the Sorceress is the mistress and guardian of the Secrets of Castle Grayskull, the source of He-Man's great power. [3] The original draft of the script by David Odell was reviewed in episode 3 of the He-Man and She-Ra podcast, Masters Cast. The script revealed that the movie intended to be more faithful to the original source material. The original draft included more time spent on Eternia, Snake Mountain, Beastman had a speaking role, and even revealed that He-Man's mother was originally from Earth, thus linking the two planets. Castle Grayskull appears at the beginning of the transformation sequences of the He-Man spin-off series She-Ra; near the end, the Crystal Castle appears in its place.
