Description

As I wrote further up, I have gone through many 35mm lenses, but these lenses are the ones that are staying in my arsenal because they bring something unique to the table. The “fast four” | Shot on GFX50R | GF63mm f/2.8 In use, the 7Artisans 35mm f/1.2 is a odd lens, but to be fair to it I think some of this comes from the fact that it’s also a very small lens – especially for its specification. I think it’s actually slightly smaller than the 25mm 1.8 lens 7Artisans also make. As such, I’ve found it makes for a great compact carry everywhere lens. Well, where to start? Optically, the 7Artisans 35mm f/1.2 is far from perfect. You’d be mad to expect it to be perfect at this price point/size/specification. In fact, in some ways it’s a little crazy. Flare

A lot of my cheaper manuel focus aftermarket lenses are quite soft when shot wide open, but not this one. I haven’t tried this brand lens yet. I do however have and use the Voightlander 35mm f/1.2 full frame in Leica M mount. I love it! I have the Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 lens in Sony E mount. I also have the 7 Artisans 50mm f/1.1 lens in Leica M mount. This is another fine lens. My least used but fine lens in Sony E mount but in APSC coverage is the 35mm f/.095 lens. With this one you can literally see in the dark. I am planning to do some more testing in the future, but I really had a hard time finding any flow in the 7artisans lens or any significant difference in the image quality when comparing it to the Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH lens. In my tests the minimum focusing distance of the Leica Summcron was 65 cm, while the 7artisans needed around 75 cm. Leica is a Rip Off! Period! I’ve been working with them since 1999 when there were still real photographers out there and leica products were reachable. Until these Mid-Life Crisis Millionaire Wannabes caused prices of leica products into the stratosphere.

When shooting the 7artisans and Mitakon side-by-side the 7artisans exposure seem just a tad darker. It’s so minute that it could also just mean that there is added contrast in the lens. For me to match the exposures one-to-one I had to add 3% extra exposure in post-processing. So it is indeed very minute. Maybe the 7artisans is a T1.0 lens. When I first heard about the 7Artisans 35mm f/1.2 lens, I must admit I was a little bit disappointed that it wasn’t a full frame lens. The first images I saw of it looked a little odd too – they certainly didn’t do the design of the lens any favours. I’ve also not been massively overexcited about the CSC lenses 7Artisans produce, with my main interest really being in what they make for M-mount cameras. As such, I’ve found myself all the more surprised with how smitten I am with the 35mmc 1.2 – it’s a crazy little lens, but I can’t help but really like it. It’s cheap Workshops/ Photowalks Mailing List– Receive info on future events specific to your city/ country/ interest.

It’s a modern lens in that it has been newly designed and built, the materials it uses are modern and the various coatings it employs are based on today’s optical standards – but the optical design is still the optical design. Lens design – Sonnar Artist lenses tend to be softer but have perhaps heavy vignetting or interesting fall off. I love the mentioned TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 lens for this look especially.

So as you can clearly see from the images, the Fujinon XF35mm f/1.4 is by far the sharpest of the bunch. Focus missed the front berries, but they’re still sharper than the berries in the rest of the images. You can also clearly see that the bokeh from the Mitakon is amazing. Of course you have an extra full f-stop of narrow-DOF, but just look at the quality of it! Silky-smooth comes to mind. The 7Artisans 35mm f/2 is a compact rangefinder-coupled Leica M-mount lens, which employs a Sonnar optical design – 7 elements in 5 groups. As such, it is unique in the M-mount lens line up – focal length, aperture and size. That being said, subjectivity speaking I’m more than happy with the results. Bear in mind this is a camera/lens combo I’m mostly likely to use for photography of my kids, perfect sharpness isn’t exactly something I’m going to be too worried about.

For the price, it’s worth buying even if you already have one of the above Fuji lenses, and it complements my 35mm f2 well despite having the same focal length. Cons: Terrible lens cap, Vignetting, Color shifts, Distortion, Very soft wide open when close, Made in China So which lens is right for you? 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 vs Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 VM lens? If you use a Leica M film camera I would get the Voigtlander lens for the size, build and it being pre-calibrated. For mirrorless camera users I would recommend the 7Artisans 35mm 1.4 lens for sharper images shot wide open. Final verdict of the 7Artisans 35mm 1.4 lens? I also noticed that the 7artisans lens has a narrower field of view and is probably more like a 40mm focal length.Kodak HC-110 1+47 (E): 20°C/68°F, 09:30 (N+1). 60 seconds initial agitation, 5 inversions / 60 seconds, 1-minute stop, 5-minute fix, 5-minute rinse. Price

You can also note the slight exposure difference between the two that I outlined further up the article. The bokeh quality between the two I definitely rate as similar. Mid frame the 7artisans seems to have a little bit of a dark rings near the edges of the blurry specular highlights, but when you change the exposure up to match that of the Mitakon they are again similar. Distorting and vignetting. We see some notable barrel distortion here patterned more around the corners of the image. The vignetting is noticeable at half 1.2 but the corners do get lighter at F 2 and F 2.8 even if you stop all the way down to f/8 though you'll continue to see very gentle vignette. Lens can focus as closely as 35 centimeters to your subject pretty good really. At f 1.2 close-up image quality is soft stop down to f/2 for an improvement and at F 2.8. That's as sharp as you’re going to get closer.

I seriously could not believe how cheap this lens was. I paid a mere 130USD for it! Never in my life had I thought that it would be possible to buy a lens with such a fast aperture at that price point. IN-SANE! Trust me…..Leica Gear is not worth the money they charge you. Especially today where all of their lenses optical computation is optimized for digital which means the glass doesn’t have to be as sharp because the Digital Sensor will compensate for that. Stopping down to anything below f/2 makes the 7artisans a very decent performer. But it will never become super super sharp. So let’s just put the whole sharpness thing to rest, shall we? This lens is about other things. Let’s take a closer look at this little wonder. This is a fully rangefinder coupled 35mm f/2 lens based off of the Sonnar optical formula, complete with an M-mount, hyperfocal distance scale, and focusing tab. Technical specifications
