British author/illustrator team Tom Fletcher and Greg Abbott, whose previous interactive picture-book collaborations range from There's a Monster in Your Book to There's an Alien in Your Book, return to the form with this fifth title. As the eponymous Superhero squares off against a destructive Scribbler intent on defacing the book, the reader/listener is given a series of instructions - tapping on the Sribbler and her little scribbles, stretching out their arms, blowing kisses - meant to influence the outcome of the story. Eventually, the Superhero rescues his friends, and finds a better purpose for his enemy, in the form of scribbling in a coloring book... We made and decorated superhero wristbands out of toilet paper rolls before reading. They were a huge hit and got everyone into superhero mood. The Christmasaurus is currently being developed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey into an animated, feature-length movie with original songs written by Tom. Here's how There's a Superhero in your Book is a good choice for storytime. Young readers are encouraged to help stop the scribbler by tapping, stretching, reaching up high and even blowing kisses. My group of kids at storytime enjoyed helping the superhero out.

The message about kindness being the greatest of all superpower is sweet. Could be argued that a virtual hug or a fist bump instead of blowing kisses to the bullies might have been a better choice, but my group enjoyed blowing kisses. So, there is that! Tom's books have been translated into thirty-nine languages, and to date he has sold over 5 million copies of his books in the UK alone. Tom also writes the incredibly successful Who's in Your Book? picture-book series and is one half of the author duo behind the Dinosaur that Pooped picture-book series too, which has sold over 1.5 million copies. Superhero needs to save your book from the no-good Scribbler! Can't have Scribbler scribbling scribbles all over the book, can we? But Superhero will need help, he can't do it alone. When they wrote so many of this type of book, I wondered how they could keep each one original and unique, but they obviously were successful. In this book, the Superhero vs. the Scribbler, and it becomes a book about kindness. I would have enjoyed using this in superhero themed storytimes!
