IsThisAKissingBook: closed door. "I have to." His breath caressed her cheek as he spoke."..."A kiss could say so many things, and these words had been denied far too long." Ashley makes favorite rom-com tropes feel new again with a pitch-perfect friends-to-lovers story....The all too real motivation for the pair's fake marriage makes the trope sing, and Ashley surrounds her characters with supportive friends, family, and colleagues, grounding the story in community and heart. Mia's struggles with chronic illness are similarly well handled, capturing both the physical and emotional toll it takes on her day-to-day life. Readers won't want to put this one down." -- Publishers Weekly starred review Sexy and sweet, with a fresh twist on friends-to-lovers, Would You Rather is the type of romance I wish I could read again for the first time. Allison Ashley draws the reader in and holds tight with a carefully woven story, sparkling chemistry, and unforgettable characters. It's pure, swoony, flirty, romantic bliss."--Lauren Accardo, author of Wild Love I WOULD DIE FOR A BOOK FROM HER POINT OF VIEW AND HER FALLING IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE THAT SHE MET ON HER TRIP ahhhhh where’s my money? i have such great ideas. anyway…

Mia’s eyes popped open and she lurched to a sitting position. Noah stood on the other side of her desk, arms folded across his broad chest.Noah keeps dealing with his own baggage and suffering from grief which restraint him come clean about his feelings.

I'm told this is a debut novel by this author - well, if that's true, I can guarantee she's going to have a long and prosperous career as a writer. There is something to be said for a love worth waiting for and for Lauren and Andrew their journey was unique and wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed each moment in this story. When chronically ill Mia receives an unmissable opportunity to return to college to pursue once-abandoned professional dreams, she is torn and heartbroken to realise she’ll have to decline the offer because her precarious health status demands she stay in her unfulfilling job to keep her insurance relevant. Easily one of my favorite reads of 2023, this dynamite roommates to friends to lovers is perfect in pretty much every way. The incredible banter between our MCs Claire and Graham, the love/hate relationship between Claire and Gertrude (Graham’s grumpy rescue dog) and of course, the many appearances from the characters in Ashley’s previous book, 𝘞𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘙𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, created the perfect, bingeable romcom.

On a day she's running late she bumps into Andrew Bishop, a super attractive guy at the local coffee shop. But a few minutes later Lauren crosses paths with him again - he's a patient at the cancer clinic she works, and it's seeking treatment for Hodgkin Lymphoma. Okay, team, I am not ready to leave the fraud rant. I have a really hard time with books that are supposed to involve a great work environment when the great work environment includes bad management practices or, you know, breaking the law because of discriminatory practices because people are too much up in their employees business (when that business is a protected class and does not impact job performance). That’s Noah’s (and early on Mia’s) office. It all seems great, but for some reason everybody thinks that it’s their business why people got married. Are they asking every newly married employee why they got married? If it was for acceptable reasons? Who TF decides what those are? If the policy states that spouses are eligible for insurance coverage, that is the extent to which the office should be interested in a marriage.

Right in the middle of all these, gets injured and left bedridden and Claire, the ever dutiful nurse slash friend is left to take care of him. And man oh man things heat up from there and the pair of them are set to realise (separately) that they can be more than just friends with benefits even with several limitations in between them. This was a fun and easy thing to binge read over the weekend and I had a nice time, smiling all the way through the book! I know I said in a reading update that this is a 2 star read....but I had to deduct half a star for that ending.Because the physical relationship between them was a huge aspect of their romantic connection. And we didn't get to see it. I wish this book had a better cover because it's SO GOOD! It's a slow burn friends to lovers that was truly romantic and made me cry, which is a rarity. The heroine is a clinical oncology pharmacist, not something I knew existed but the author shares this occupation and it definitely shows in the detail we get in the story. There is a meet cute involving spilled coffee before the heroine meets the hero again. As a patient for a treatable form of cancer. She smiled, ignoring the pang of jealousy at his casual mention of spending time with his dad. There was a time she and her parents got together for regular meals, too. Now, she couldn’t even remember the last time. “Yeah?”

Ashley also did a great job of portraying chronic illness, and really showcasing the negative effects it has not only on your physical health, but on your mental health as well. It can seem a bit annoying at times that she feels she is a burden, but the fact of the matter is, when you suffer from a debilitating chronic illness, this is how you feel. End of story. But while their connection and chemistry is strong, there are traumas from their past keeping each other at arms length. The woman seemed stunned for a second as she looked at Noah, blinking several times. “Um, sure. Yes, that’s fine. I know I’m a little early.” Pitch-perfect...gives me all the feels, and I love every one of them!"—Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis
