I ignored graphic EQ pedals for many years but since discovering them recently I dare to say that it’s a single most important pedal I own. I’m happy with my pickups, so the only thing I’m using it is to shape the sound after one of my hi-gain preamps. Other than the bypass switch and sliders, there aren’t any parts sticking out, and sliders protrude just a little so it’s not easy to accidentally break them. Guitarists can really stretch their tone with this pedal, whether it’s low-end warmth or higher-frequency boost.

Usingthe MXR Six Band EQ you can create scooped-mid rhythm tones with huge low end, add in natural sounding warmth to a quacky acoustic pickup, eliminate onstage feed-back and much more. You can even use the Six Band EQ in the effects loop of your amp for a massive, adjustable lead boost. This is a good compromise between box-sounding and sterile, chords sound full but it’s scooped enough to do palm-muting stuff. Can’t remember exactly why I bought it (new), but had to be because of Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads, my two guit-wielding idols at the time. The Six Band EQ can create scooped-mid rhythm tones with massive low end, add natural sounding warmth to a quacky acoustic pickup, eliminate onstage feed-back, and much more. This is my “V” setting used after the distortion (with both SLO-style and IIc+ preamps) to scoop out the mids. Started with Fair Warning, whose balls I just can’t get enough of…which doesn’t sound so good but you get what I mean.Setting two treble sliders higher always sounds too shrill so I tend to keep them around the mid-line.

However, after Jim Dunlop relaunched the MXR brand in 1987, he saw fit to reissue the 6BGE as one of the ‘classic’ line of MXR pedals. While compact EQs were fashionable, they had a boost in popularity when they were used by major artists like Eddie Van Halen and Joe Perry. The MXR Six Band EQ is reintroduced with upgraded noise-reduction circuitry, true-bypass switching for the purest tones and brither LEDs for increased visibility when on stage - all pakced into lightweight aluminium housing. It will also add natural-sounding warmth to a quacky acoustic pickup and instantly eliminate onstage feedback or boost your overall signal when using a massive chain of floor effects. As a brief reminder, what got my attention were the following things: > A good wood combo: swamp ash, maple/rosewood.The original MXR Six Band Graphic Equalizer (6BGE as it was known by the company) was introduced in 1976 and stayed in production until about 1982, two years before MXR went out of business. Ex Demo / Open Box products are sold with the full manufacturer's warranty and are usually supplied with the factory accessories and packaging. They do, though, have a part to play in the vintage effect pedal landscape and will continue to beguile users of vintage analogue gear who want to tweak their tone in the old school way. Thought I remembered that from back in the day – the hissing, the feedback, the thinning out of tone. To throw a wrench in your gears, the MXR 10 band is even more versatile than the GE-7, but runs on 18v.

The MXR Six Band EQ covers all the essential guitar frequencies and has been upgraded with noise-reduction circuitry, true bypass switching, brighter LEDs for increased visibility, and a lightweight aluminium housing. For someone who plays more than I do it would last shorter but still it’s not a current thirsty pedal. We understand the importance of online privacy and are committed to complying with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.operation allows more headroom before the clipping occurs which is useful for me because my tube preamps can output a few volts of output, enough to distort any pedal. The GE-7 has a level slider, so it can be easier to adjust overall signal to match the bypass level. Never did get there exactly, an evolving quest, but in the context of EVH tone I was happy to find that I still had my old MXR 6-band.
