Description

The tempo faders are long and precise, making for easy beatmatching similar to Pioneers CDJ / XDJ players. The overall sensation of mixing and performing on the DDJ-RX is that you can trust it and let rip! Road test – live on the radio The XDJ-RX, though, is the first controller to come close to hitting the spot with Rekordbox – close enough for us to feel excited about using it. Aside from the library searching issue, there’s not much I missed here from DJing with Traktor, Serato or VirtualDJ plus a controller – and I did like the Pioneer look and feel. Last up of the pad functions is the Sampler and Velocity Sampler. Essentially these are banks of sample slots where you can add one-shot samples or loops that you can trigger and overlay in performance. There’s a few basic samples included in the software (siren, horn etc), which I used in testing. The sampler volume is controlled by its own fader in the middle of the mixer and samples can be synced to the master tempo and auditioned in the headphones with buttons just above the fader. By using the capture button you can save currently looping sections (or all the slices in your current “slicer loop”) to the slots to build your own library, pretty cool. Be able to use fully analog setup for maximum best analog sound quality (so analog turntables/1200s, which I am buying anyway, and analog architecture mixer)

A couple we’ve already mentioned: There’s the vinyl speed behaviour (you can have the vinyl slow down / start up knob affect either of those features or both by setting your choice here), and I’ve also spoken of the line fader curve setting here, which is a nice touch. Is this unit in any way DVS compatible/expandable? I would like the have the option to use timecode vinyl on the SLs to control the software (particularly Serato DJ) and mp3s through this unit. I already have a very powerful laptop (rMBP 15”) so I am not counting this cost at all – it’s there already Your last 2 sentences – that’s exactly what I am thinking of doing –> getting xdj-rx and hooking up 1200s so that if I want I can use standalone mixer function on the xdj-rx. Now with the XDJ-RX, for the first time it’s possible to see how a beginner DJ could buy this as their first controller, learning how to DJ on it the “Pioneer” way, and so theoretically carry those skills right across into the pro DJ booth when ready with a minimal learning curve to adjust to. Since one of the issues people have with software / controller DJing is “but the club I want to play in has CDJs, and I don’t know how to use them!”, this could turn out to be significant.

Rekordbox is Pioneer’s DJ software solution, but it’s slightly different to Serato, Traktor, VirtualDJ and the like, in that it is not intended to go into the DJ box with you – at least when it comes to standalone/all-in-one systems. Rather, it’s intended to be used to prepare your music beforehand, so that you can do all kinds of cool controller-type stuff in the DJ booth, without the laptop being there with you. Does the screen on this XDJ-RX resemble in any way the screen on XDJ-1000/CDJ-2000nxs ? I mean not quality wise but in terms of layout and graphics? I guess my question here is if the screens on these ‘players’ use the same OS. I just would like to know that if I am used to DJ on this and then go to a club where they have CDJ2000nxs (rekordbox compatible) if I feel 100% at home after plugging USB in terms of visual arrangement/system of the screen’s playerThanks to in-house software and hardware development the DDJ-RX offers tight integration with low latency possible with modest system requirements enable the RX to deliver a super responsive experience.

Rekordbox DJhas arrived; the new software released by Pioneer DJ is just what Rekordbox users have been waiting for. Rekordbox DJ uses one library so a set can be prepped and played straight from a laptop and used with a controller or export the same library to a USB device ready to use on the industry standard CDJ-2000 Nexus players.

Tech spec

Rekordbox DJ includes all the accustomed tools including Sampler, Slicer, Hot Cues, Beat FX and Sound Colour FX along with Beat Jump and introducing the new Pad FX so you can create multiple FX chains using all 16 pads. As far as the standalone mixer functionality in this: I understand that this mixer will be ‘digital’ as far as the architecture goes?

Deliveries will be made subject to the terms and conditions of the courier company. djkit.com will not be held responsible for late deliveries. The DDJ-RX comes with four inputs which enables easy connection to DJ equipment along with using it as a four-channel stand-alone mixer. The controller has enhanced low-latency jog wheels for perfect scratch response every time. And another final point, trying to be really clever last year, I got a thunderbolt drive by La Cie, these DO NOT work with Rekordbox. They mount to the computer in a different way than USB and so their mount point changes, meaning your playlists will disappear or lose their path. Worth more trouble and really no need to have that kind of speed for audio, now I use it for VJing and Serato In other words I need something ultra versatile with the ability to get used to playing on Pioneer’s club standard without actually buying it. Thank you very much and sorry for writing so much. 1. I am just passionate about it as hell. 2. I am about to spend a lot of money on my new rig (used to have DDJ-SZ but sold it as I was moving 10000 kms) so wanna be sure I am making an informed decision. Personally I needed a larger scope and already had an investment in Traktor / Laptop. So S8 made more sense for me. 1 week in and still finding features, functionalities and quirks 😉
