The short answer is yes, if your only scale is what other current phones have to offer. Whatever else happened in 2018, phone innovation didn’t, which makes the Mate 20 Pro’s minor improvements and additions more impressive. But let’s delve into the specifics to see why this is pretty great phone perhaps deserves its dizzyingly high price tag. Huawei Mate 20 Pro release date and price Taking care of the graphics is the Mali G76 MP10 and, once again, this phone is an absolute beast when it comes to gaming. There might be dedicated gaming phones out there but the Huawei Mate 20 Pro should be taken very seriously if you’re into mobile gaming. You can shoot at 3x without digital zoom, and even get good results at 5x. The real star here is low light performance, though. Standard night shooting just about matches the best, but a dedicated night mode lets you take low light shots with dynamic range to rival an APS-C DSLR.

I've used Huawei smartphones for years and I'll be frank: EMUI used to be terrible. I say used to be because the company has come a long way and while there are some quirks, EMUI 9 is pretty polished overall. The 2k+ OLED panel boasts all the characteristics that make OLED displays a joy to use and offers excellent color reproduction and brightness. The Mate 20 Pro narrowly beats the Pixel 3 - which has one of the best displays ever - in daylight visibility, and produces colors that are punch but not excessively saturated like certain smartphones. If you're coming from an older OLED smartphone, you might find the display a little less vivid that you're used to, but there are options to adjust the tone and even the hue in the settings menu. Huawei also has its own version of Apple's TrueTone display tech - called Eye Comfort - which adjusts the white balance to match the surrounding light temperature in a bid to make whites look natural regardless of the time of day, and it works pretty well. There’s only one version of the Pro (for now) with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. But the other versions in the Mate 20 line – like the 7.2-inch screen Mate 20 X and 8GB RAM and up to 512GB Porsche Edition – offer different performance and form factors if you want a slightly different take on this already-performance-driven smartphone.

UPDATE: The US Government has taken measures to revoke Huawei’s Android licence. As a result, we urge readers to hold off on purchasing a new handset from the Chinese manufacturer; Google has reassured existing customers that they will notice no disruption of services, but the future remains uncertain, particularly as the next iteration of the Android OS will likely skip Huawei devices. ALL VERSIONS LYA-L09 LYA-L29 LYA-L0C LYA-AL00 6 GB RAM LYA-AL00 8 GB RAM LYA-AL10 LYA-TL00 6 GB RAM LYA-TL00 8 GB RAM Like most Huawei devices, the Mate 20 Pro has stellar hardware and excellent cell reception. I've been using it with my EE SIM card while roaming in the US on the T-Mobile and AT&T networks, and I've had no coverage issues. In fact, where the Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS often dropped service, the Mate 20 Pro always seems to have a connection. In theory, the Mate 20 Pro supports up to 1.788Gbps on WiFi connections and 1.4Gbps thanks to the world's first Cat 21 LTE connection. In other words - it supports really fast data connections and you'll have no problems.

Huawei is making the buying decision pretty difficult for flagship smartphone connoisseurs in 2018 and its Mate 20 Pro looks as if it’s set to continue that trend into 2019. Like its predecessor, the P20 Pro, the Mate 20 Pro has three cameras at the rear. Like that phone, it’s a pretty great camera. Like most other high-end Huawei phones, the P20 Pro does not have the highest display resolution in its class. This is a 1080 x 2244 AMOLED screen. The notch on the Pro isn’t one that simply mimics the unit on the iPhone. Here it houses a multitude of sensors and ensures the screen can be pushed out as far as possible. Huawei Mate 20 Pro Performance – Still very fast Versions: LYA-L09, LYA-L29 (Global market); LYA-AL00, LYA-AL10, LYA-TL00 (China, Hong Kong); LYA-L0C (Canada) Network What's more apparent is Huawei's master AI feature, which has been improved and tweaked with the Mate 20 Pro. You can easily disable it in the settings but, apart from the odd time where it flips into portrait mode when I'm taking a group shot, I like it. The blue sky mode especially is fantastic, as it boosts the saturation and details to capture stunning images. As with the P20 Pro, you'll either like it or hate it, but if you're the latter, it's easy to turn it off and forget about it.
