Description

When you ride a motorbike you become part of a worldwide community of kindred spirits – those of us who will not be pacified by driving a car, but instead live for adventure, escape and the sheer thrill of the throttle”. Illustrations of anthropomorphic animals are very well done and show differences among children without judgment. Children's books, hackney cabs, public lavatories, choral singing, cookery, sewage disposal, to name a few subjects, all came under his critical gaze.

I found his life story interesting, yes he swears a lot but while that doesn't particularly bother me it's also lazy and he could have cut the "C word" count in particular quite a lot. When author David Wittlinger decided to get an old motorcycle to fix up he didn't have any particular model in mind.A Biker's Life is the dramatic, humorous and candid memoir of one of the most recognisable names in motorcycling.

I learnt a lot about Henry that I was not aware of including his drug addiction, and various film and TV series production credits. If your like me, I loved Motorcycles from an early age, in my teens -twenty's I had a range of Bike's and if I'd kept them, they'd be worth a load of Dosh today. Gorgeously rendered in soft, dark pencils, this wordless book is reminiscent of the naturalistic pencil artistry of Maurice Sendak and Brian Selznick, but unique in its accurate re-creation of a Civil War-era farm in northwestern Virginia.

It would have been very easy to focus the whole book on his success with his programmes, but to share personal struggles was a real eye opener. Thankfully there is loads of good stuff about motorcycling - in fact wish there was more about that. The family is wordless too, when the soldiers arrive with offers of a reward, but leave empty handed. In this beautiful wordless picture book, Spot the cat finds a dog named Dot who’s off on her own adventure through the city!

From construction to maintenance, from foundations to roof to damp-proofing in between (“nobody wants rusty nuts”), here is all the practical information you need to start your own shed odyssey, delivered in Henry’s inimitable style. Unspoken is the story of the Underground Railroad – the network of Southern families who helped slaves who had escaped to reach safety in the North. In the recently harvested cornstalks propped up in the corner of the barn, she hears a rustling and sees an eye. Simple and stunning images tell the story of a cat named Spot as he weaves his way in and out of a city in this wordless picture book from award-winning author-illustrator Henry Cole. In his new book, which is out next Thursday (17th September), Henry introduces the idea that a shed is a place to sit, a place to fettle and a place to stash, a spiritual refuge and a state of mind. To think that Henry’s really been through the mixer and come out the other side gives everybody hope and he comes across as a genuinely spot on fella. From the beloved illustrator and author of A Nest for Celeste comes Brambleheart, a beautiful tale about nature, imagination, and how love is the greatest thing we build.

Unspoken gifts of humanity unite the girl and the runaway as they each face a journey: one following the North Star, the other following her heart. It's an idyllic spot, offering picturesque views across the Cotswolds, bustling hedgerows, woodlands and natural springs. They’re the place where old things get a new lease of life, and where new things – the motor, the light bulb, the telephone – are invented. Confederate soldiers arrive on horseback and a farmer’s daughter’s lingering gaze betrays her intuition of their visit.

When you ride a motorbike you become part of a worldwide community of kindred spirits – those of us who will not be pacified by driving a car, but instead live for adventure, escape and the sheer thrill of the throttle. I have owned and ridden motorcycles before being legally able, my dad taught me how to drive a sidecar outfit and I have watched some of the Henry Cole tv series. This audiobook reminds millions of motorcyclists why their bike gives them the freedom to be exactly who they want to be: to say 'I'm doing my thing'. When their principal is running late, all members of Hardy School must work together to keep things running smoothly!
