Performed by the wonderfully dynamic and hugely engaging Ensemble 360 and Polly Ives, this concert is a great introduction to live music for children. It's full of wit, invention, songs and actions, and plenty of opportunities to join in. This is a beautifully illustrated book that follows the story of a young Sir Scallywag on his mission to recover the golden underpants. With rhyming verses, it has an enchanting ability to amuse and entertain its audience, especially when read aloud.

Their home performance space is the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse in Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre, an intimate space in which the audience is seated “in the round” and never more than twenty feet away from the stage. It is from this wonderful performance space that both Ensemble 360 and Music in the Round take their names. I had to giggle at the title. Only can children’s books get away with such a curious title grabber. Then you begin to read the book and realize that King Colin is over the top, not just a little bit, but waaaay over the top and the title does not seem so out of place at all.

One day a giant steels his golden underpants and so the king sends out young scallywag a six year old boy to retrieve them. The reader is left wondering how a small boy will defeat such a big giant but he does and the closing lines of the book are,My 4 yr old boy loves this book. It is bold and its irreverence speaks to him. His love of knights and jousting of course is the drive but golden underpants was the cherry on top. What can I say...I LOVE the illustrations!! And the rhymes are fun and easy to read. Users who reposted Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants - KS1 BrightSparks Concert - February 2022
