Definitely recommend this as a feeder for wet food. Cat Mate do an equally good dry food automated dispenser for non-wet food. Cat Proof– It doesn’t take much for most cats to break into a feeder but this one is as cat proof as they get.

I tried to set my new c500 before going away last week and gave up. Had to borrow a friend’s old and simple one. The Cat Mate C500 runs on 3 AA batteries, but unfortunately batteries are not included. There is no option to plug the feeder into the wall.

Missed Feedings– If for some reason your pet doesn’t eat a meal before it advances to the next feeding, your cat will miss that feeding. While we've pointed out some of the possible flaws here, it's definitely worth noting that the overall reaction to the Cat Mate C500 is overwhelmingly positive. Should you buy the Cat Mate C500?Initially, the cats are startled by the unit moving, and are, of course, curious cats but not sure what to do with the thing. If they don't get it, just kind of put their face by the food compartment and they'll realize it's food and eat up. The price of this automatic cat feeder seems like a good value compared to other models with similar features. It costs more than a basic gravity feeder but less than feeders including more advanced smart WIFI and camera features. Also, those other feeder types can’t use wet cat food so it has them beat. If you’re able to use this feeder to reduce the number of times a cat sitter comes it will probably pay for itself after one weekend. Please follow the safety instructions in the manual. You should supervise the first few feedings to make sure your cat will eat from it.

It has a close-fitting lid to help keep things fresh. It’s also fully pet-proof, but you could also fasten it to a wooden board for extra stability, in case your four-legged friends bump into it in their haste to arrive at their favourite food dish! Great product and easy to use. It stood up to the cat trying to get to the food the first time we used it, she is a hunter and could smell the food inside! After scheduling the feedings the feeder will keep repeating the same schedule, the same time every day. You don’t need to touch it again except for adding food or if you want to change the schedule.

The cat's head kind goes into the compartment when they eat, and their whiskers will smush against the sides of the compartment. Although the compartments are very easy to wash, there's a bit of a design flaw - the bottom edges of the compartments are too right-angled and food gets pushed up to the edges and is hard for the cats to get at. It would be better if the compartments were designed with scooped edges. So the cats end up eating as much as they can get to, and then literally have to walk around the unit to eat more, then walk around the unit again to eat more - so they have to "work" for their food. If they don't want to work so hard, there ends up being uneaten food at the edges. I don't see what happens because I'm gone, but a few times the unit was moved a few feet away from where I placed it. I don't know if one of my cats is trying hard to get to the other compartment's foods before it's time, or if the unit is getting pushed around while they are trying hard to eat the food from the bottom edges. The unit has never been tipped over though. Best feeder option for wet food– There aren’t many options for automatic feeders that can use wet food and this one is clearly the top of the list.

When not in use you can turn the feeder off to save battery life and still keep the stored schedule. If you’re not going to use it for longer periods it is recommended to remove the batteries.
