Koul, Scaachi (November 21, 2019). "The Nine Online Lives Of Jeffree Star". BuzzFeed News . Retrieved November 24, 2019. Reception of The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star varied throughout the series but was generally mixed. Dawson's hesitance to include a past controversy concerning James Charles and Tati Westbrook resulted in criticism; Dawson included the events in the finale of the series. Before the finale, reporters criticized the series for focusing too much on The Conspiracy Collection and compared the series' influence to that of Dawson's past works, such as The Mind of Jake Paul and The Truth about TanaCon. A palette so good, it’s almost controversial. Made in collaboration with YouTube star Shane Dawson, the Mini Controversy Palette from Jeffree Star Cosmetics features a versatile selection of cool blues, rich purples, and soft neutrals.

Sleep Paralysis: Another reference to the creepy videos he used to make. Many people experience sleep paralysis and sometimes claim to have hallucinations that elicit intense fear. Shane sometimes talks about lucid dreaming, which could lead to sleep paralysis. On November 10, 2019, Star released a video announcing the collection had broken several records. Six days after the collection's launch, over one million eye shadow palettes had been sold. [4] Star also said the launch was the biggest e-commerce launch in the history of the internet. [4]

Cry on My Couch: Shane makes a shade the color of his old couch that he says he shed many tears on. One of the things that really sold me about this palette was how pigmented the shades looked. Every swatch video and image I saw, they looked incredible, and I’m all about a well-pigmented bright colour. I hate having to work hard to create a look, and if I can sweep on a colour without having to build it up for ages, it’s a winner for me. Unfortunately, actually using the palette has been mildly disappointing, considering the hype surrounding it. The answer to this question really lies with how much of a fan of Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star you are. If you want to support them, then I don’t think you’d be disappointed by the palette. You can craft some really great looks from it and get really creative. However, this wouldn’t be a palette I’d recommend to people outside of this community, especially if they only hold a casual interest in makeup. I can see that some makeup artists and enthusiasts would probably love to have a play with some of these shades, but for a casual fan of makeup, it’s quite a hard palette to dip into and find looks that work well. a b Alexander, Julia (November 1, 2019). "YouTubers are clashing over eye shadow, and millions of dollars are at stake". The Verge . Retrieved November 24, 2019.Commentators criticized the first six episodes; most fans thought that the series should focus less on The Conspiracy Collection and more on the arguments shown in the trailer for the series. Alex Casey and Jihee Junn, writing for The Spinoff, criticized the series for focusing too much on Jeffree Star Cosmetics rather than the makeup industry as a whole, and also criticized the series' cinematography for being disorienting. They considered it "the smartest advertising campaign of the influencer age" and praised the series for covering the business of the makeup world in detail. Casey added, "I have never seen anything that better untangles, re-tangles and then sets on fire the... rat king of money, power, influence and eyeshadow at this particular point in time in the hell world, whether they are doing it consciously or not". [51] This is my personal favorite from these looks. In real life it looked more purple, but somehow it photographed very pinky.

One area where this palette really excels is the blendability of the shades. They apply pretty easily and can be built up into a bright and strong colour. When you’ve worked out which shades you think will go together, blending out is super easy, and the shades will combine and work well. This is a good palette for bold looks that cover the whole eyelid area, and each shade can be blended out to create this kind of result. What’s the Tea?: A slang phrase for “What’s the drama/gossip?” that Shane and many other influencers use.
