This Pure model is another one that makes for an ideal bedside radio. Where this one works best is for its alarms. You can set four alarms (either to a DAB station or a tone) and have different times for weekdays and weekends. Offering everything from Bluetooth connectivity to multiple alarms, the Siesta S6 is a great piece of kit. You can also pre-set up to 40 FM or digital radio stations, to save you scrolling through long lists of stations every time you want to find Heat FM (though setting 40 of them may slightly defeat the purpose).For example, as well as an automatically dimming display, you can also use the built-in sleep timer to put your radio into standby mode after a certain length of time. You may need to pay a little more to get your hands on this device – but we think it might be worth the cost. As we’ve said, DAB audio quality can far exceed that of FM. Sometimes radios also offer ways to control the music through dials or an equaliser menu (so you can tweak the bass and treble). However, it also comes with a wider range of features, including the unique Siesta button, the Bluetooth connectivity to play your own content, and USB charging. You can choose to either wake up to the radio or a standard alert tone, which gradually becomes louder; it doesn’t sound particularly pleasant, but that’s probably the point. There’s no option to use music from your phone, which is a shame, particularly since it’s likely to be connected via that USB port anyway. Speaking from experience, the easier an alarm is to switch off, the less likely it is to get me out of bed. With that in mind, the touch-sensitive band at the front of the S6 makes it very easy to delay the day for an extra few minutes each morning – sometimes, even by accident. That could prove dangerous for some. You won’t get pumping bass, or the interface needed for a really seamless analogue radio experience, but the Siesta Charge performs its core functions impressively, and is well worth a look.
