Naturally, you want shoes that fit you nicely for playing squash, but this is also something that depends on personal preference. Ideally, you want squash shoes that fit firmly but not too tightly: too tight, and you will have problems with pain in your feet. Too loose, and you’ll move around too much and not achieve the level of agility you want when playing. It is strongly advised that you have a professional measurement of your foot size taken if you want to get the perfect fit, and you can find this service at most shoe shops. Why does this happen? I don’t know. Maybe there’s a good business reason for it. Maybe they’re inhaling a little too much glue down at the shoe factory. Whatever the reason, we can’t control it, so we just have to roll with it. The grip underneath the shoe is really substantial. Unlike many other shoes I’ve worn, I never had any issues with slipping on the court, and they’ve maintained this grip, even after significant use. Weight One more thing. You know how the whole pandemic situation messed with manufacturing supply chains across the entire world? Well that was especially true for squash shoes. For one thing, the manufacturing is done mostly in Asia, which has been greatly disrupted by coronivirus infections and shutdowns. And with their suddenly limited resources, shoe companies have been redirecting their efforts to making outdoor shoes like running shoes and so on, which are selling better in the pandemic and post-pandemic. So basically I’m gonna repeat myself and say it again except in bold caps: IF YOU LIKE A SQUASH SHOE, BUY MULTIPLE PAIRS! For some players, you may not be able to find a shoe that is perfectly comfortable. If you find a shoe that meets your other needs and is within your budget, you can make minor adjustments to the shoe by looking for after-market insoles or adjusting how you lace the shoe. How do I care for my squash shoes?

If you are not able to have traction on the court, you will not be able to play at your best. Look for a shoe that has a blend of synthetic and gum rubber so that the sole will give you the traction you need. Wear and tear. The downsides of these are firstly that the extra cushioning means they are a little bit heavier and higher off the ground than the Asics Gel Fastball. If you want the speediest shoe, get the Fastball. If you want a little more cushioning, try the Renma. Another issue that’s on my radar is the toe of these shoes is not very breathable, which might result in some stinky shoes. I’m going to be keeping an eye on that over the course of the next few months to see how it pans out. The SH-A922 (not the catchiest name we’ll admit) is one of Victor’s headline shoes – here’s what they offer:

This happens ALL THE TIME. I’ve been running this blog for over ten years and I’ve seen it over and over again. A shoe will come out. Squash players will test it out, and it will gradually become popular. When you are trying on shoes, make sure they aren’t tight. Consider purchasing a half size larger than you normally would and don’t forget to consider the width of the squash shoe, not just the length. Playing with sore feet is uncomfortable and a lot less fun. For the price, we believe the technology and design – and overall quality – of this pair of dedicated squash shoes is hard to beat, and they should be good enough for any level of player. For a short time, you may be able to use whatever athletic shoes you happen to have. There are some athletic shoes that can be used for squash, though they are not ideal. Badminton and racquetball shoes are both acceptable substitutes. On the other hand, running shoes, tennis shoes and basketball shoes will all leave you unsupported and disappointed. How often should my shoes be replaced?

Incorporated into the sole is a ‘roll bar’ that prevents the shoe from rolling on the uptake, a great innovation that helps with precise and fast movement. I tested these out and I’m gonna be honest, these shoes hurt my feet after a while. The soles are not cushioned enough for my 40-plus-year-old feet. Performance shoes for intensity sports tend to last much less than your average pair of sneakers. However, the durability of your shoes will finally depend on the number of times per week you use them, as well as the intensity you use them with. Some users would think that squash is a game that could be played with a pair of normal sneakers. While you could potentially endure a match with running sneakers, it wouldn’t be optimal for your performance and it would possibly damage your shoes in the long run. This is a lightweight shoe so bear that in mind when you are considering your options, and comes with generally good customer comments. One repeated complaint, however, is that it feels ‘flat footed’ so it is a must for trying on before you buy. A general rule of thumb is that you should replace your shoes the same number of times per year as number of days per week that you train. For example, someone who plays three times a week should replace their shoes three times per year, whereas a person who trains only once a week would only need to replace them annually. For one thing, I feel like that will damage or dirty the squash courts. But more importantly, I feel like that will negatively impact how well my shoes grip the court. I don’t want to risk getting injured, even over something small like that. How long do squash shoes last? This is rated by players as one of the finest squash shoes of them all, being specially designed for the sport. That does mean you’ll pay a bit more for this pair of very stylish and high-quality shoes than you will for some others, but for experienced and serious players this shoe is a popular choice. A synthetic upper and inner and an EVA midsole – coupled with gum rubber sole for added grip and agility – make these well-designed shoes very popular, and the cushioning is more than adequate thanks to the brand’s experience in producing such products. The Eye S-Line models come in a variety of bold color options and are very popular on the pro circuit. If you drag your toe or the side of your foot when you play, the upper part of the shoe might start showing signs of wear. Watch for holes in the toe or near the ball of your foot. What squash shoes do the pros wear? Product Image

The Eye S.Line shoe was developed by leading sports scientists to combine a balanced cushioned gripping sole with a stable durable upper making it the perfect fit for the rigorous demands of the game.Whatever shoes you might buy, you’ll need to test them out for yourself. There’s no substitute for this. Shoes that work for my weird feet might not work for your weird feet. People who play the game often tend to have certain things that they look for in a squash shoe, including: Weight of the shoe.

When you buy through a sponsored link, Squash Source receives a small commission (at no additional cost to you), which supports my efforts on Squash Source — thanks! I’m possibly a bit of a purist but I don’t want to get dirt and other outdoor gunk on my squash shoes. We’ve covered everything below, from function to fashion, budget savers to bank-breakers, low-top to high-top and everything in between. But to answer the question, a good pair will last me 6-12 months playing a few times a week. How do I convert international shoe sizes to my normal size? We like to make specific emphasis on the qualities of outsoles, as they’re one of the principal aspects of every shoe. Outsoles are the elements that determine the activities for which a shoe is suitable for. Other materials may be replaced with less suitable options, but the outsole is one of the key pieces that you just can’t get wrong.
