I've never been particularly into ballet, but it's a beautiful art form and if you love the ballet I definitely recommend this.

Alexandre Dumas, père (French for "father", akin to Senior in English), born Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, was a French writer, best known for his numerous historical novels of high adventure which have made him one of the most widely read French authors in the world. Many of his novels, including The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask, and The Vicomte de Bragelonne were serialized. Dumas also wrote plays and magazine articles, and was a prolific correspondent. The story was first published in 1816 in German in Berlin by In der Realschulbuchhandlung in a volume entitled Kinder-Mährchen, Children’s Stories, which also included tales by Carl Wilhelm Contessa and Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. The story was republished in the first volume of Hoffmann’s short story collection, Die Serapionsbrüder, The Serapion Brethren, (1819-20). The Serapion Brethren was the name of a literary club that Hoffmann formed in 1818. The Nutcracker By Imagine That Publishing |The Works

Titles of all of the numbers listed here come from Marius Petipa's original scenario as well as the original libretto and programs of the first production of 1892. All libretti and programs of works performed on the stages of the Imperial Theatres were titled in French, which was the official language of the Imperial Court, as well as the language from which balletic terminology is derived. One critic complained that the ballet was in bad taste because characters in Act 2 looked like food from a pastry shop. Another complained that Ivanov's "Waltz of the Snowflakes" was taken from ballets by Petipa. [15] Tchaikovsky however thought that the staging was very beautiful, so much so that his eyes grew tired looking at it. [16] Dumas's father's aristocratic rank helped young Alexandre Dumas acquire work with Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orléans, then as a writer, finding early success. I was expecting more of retelling story from the original, sayangnya sedikit sekali perjalanan Georgie di dunia lain tersebut. Below is a synopsis based on the original 1892 libretto by Marius Petipa. The story varies from production to production, though most follow the basic outline. The names of the characters also vary. In the original Hoffmann story, the young heroine is called Marie Stahlbaum and Clara (Klärchen) is her doll's name. In the adaptation by Dumas on which Petipa based his libretto, her name is Marie Silberhaus. [5] In still other productions, such as Baryshnikov's, Clara is Clara Stahlbaum rather than Clara Silberhaus.

I wasn't quite prepared for all the emotional moments that popped out of this one, but I actually really liked them. I really liked Georgie's moments in the real contemporary world where she had to deal with friendship struggles and making a new friend. Plus, the struggle with her grandfather was so heartwarming and breaking at the same time. I thought Adrian did a wonderful job with capturing Georgie's voice. Each gift comes to life and dances for Clara. The Sugarplum and her Cavalier perform a glorious Grand Pas de Deux! As the dance ends, the Sugar Plum Fairy summons the Chestnut Shell Boat to carry Clara home.

The ballet was first performed in 1892 at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre, Saint Petersburg. However, it wasn't until 1954, with George Balanchine's production at the New York City Ballet, that the popularity of an annual Christmas performance started to take off.
