What more? This lens gives a qualitative impression. It is very well made, with the WR special attention given to its strength. This is the first suggestion I’ve seen that this lens is anything but an in-house Fujifilm design, made in Fujifilm’s lens factory in the Philippines. If this is not the case, I’d be interested to know what is. Distortion is invisible as shot as JPGs on my Fuji X-T1, which for all I know is correcting it automatically. I think there is a higher chance you’ll be bringing your camera along for your travels. Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 on an X-T1 It’s considered one of Fuji’s sharpest lenses

If all you’re doing, though, is photographing static or slowly moving subjects, the autofocus works absolutely fine, giving consistently sharp images. With faster action you may need to bring other techniques into play, such as pre-focusing and shooting bursts, or selecting a small aperture and using depth of field to cover for any focus inaccuracy. To be honest, though, you’d probably be better off just switching to a different lens. Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR: Performance It is much more difficult to take interesting photos with “standard” focal lengths (between 40 and 50mm). Yet this is rewarding because the most beautiful street photography photos are taken in this focal range. The Fuji 27/2.8 has no visible distortion shot as JPG, where the camera may be correcting any that's there — or not. There are no lateral color fringes as shot on the X-T1 as JPGs, which is probably correcting any if there were any.It has exactly the same optical formula as the original lens, being comprised of 7 elements in 5 groups including a glass moulded aspherical element which reduces image distortion and spherical aberration. The 41mm equivalent lens is constructed of six elements in five groups, including two high-refractive index elements. It has an aperture range of F2.8 through F16, uses a seven-blade aperture diaphragm, has a minimum focusing distance of 35cm (13.8"), uses a 39mm front filter thread and has a metal body. Bokeh, the feel, character or quality of out-of-focus areas as opposed to how far out of focus they are, isn't that great, but nothing every gets that far out of focus, so don't worry about it.

Fujifilm kept the glass inside the new lens the same as the old one. There are seven elements in five groups with seven rounded blades. The minimum focus distance is a little more than 13 inches, which is decent enough but not great. The 27mm focal-length is 40.5mm full-frame equivalent, which is barely wide-angle, and is very close to “normal” on Fujifilm X cameras. The maximum aperture is f/2.8, which isn’t particularly fast, and the minimum aperture is f/16. The lens accepts 39mm threaded filters. The trade-off, however, is that it’s an f2.8 — Fujifilm has some good f1.4 lenses, but they are both much larger and pricier. The XF 27mm also had a bit of occasional colored fringing, and it’s not going to win a corner sharpness contest with pixel peepers. Overall, I think it offers the right mix of character, portability, and image quality to be worth considering as a walk-around lens for photographers on a budget. If your budget is bigger, the XF 23mm f1.4 R is much brighter and includes focus controls and a focal scale on the lens. But that pricer lens actually isn’t weather-sealed and is a bit larger. While it may not be an especially exotic lens in terms of focal length or aperture, the small size and weight of the XF 27mm F2.8 R WR gives it plenty of appeal. It also produces very good results with an excellent level of detail throughout the aperture range. The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR is a short normal-length pancake prime lens for Fujifilm's X-series range of APS-C format mirrorless cameras. To me, this lens feels natural and effortless. Because its FOV is so close to that of the human eye, whenever I visualize a shot, I can simply move to where I think I need to be, pull the camera up to my eye, and snap the photo without having to do any additional maneuvering. The end product is almost always exactly what I had envisioned, which is a special quality in itself. The ability to capture a pre-visualized slice of life without much effort makes this lens the favorite in my collection. For this reason, I call the 27mm my “slice of life” lens. With that said, the 27mm excels in everyday genres of photography that focus on documenting people, places, things, and the fleeting moments of life—genres like documentary, street, travel, lifestyle, and even landscape photography. As I was getting ready to write this article, I was looking around my gear cabinet for this lens and I couldn’t locate it. When I did find it, the lens was attached to my wife’s X-T4! It turns out that the Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR is her favorite lens. It seems that whenever I want to use it, the lens is attached to her camera. This is the only lens that we fight over. With a 7-bladed rounded diaphragm I get soft 14-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light only at the smallest apertures.
