Like I said, there was potential here, but the book needed better world building and editing to pull it all together. Kiss of Darkness is the first book in the Guardians series, preceded by the Alice Skye series that is set in the same universe. i’m thinking it’s supposed to be british english to excuse it but i just think i’m dumb or the writing style is just not for me or most people. I enjoyed this story and would like to see where it goes next, but I would definitely want to read the original series first. Said to be tall, with gleaming dark hair and mesmerizing blue eyes, and speaks with a French accent.

Maybe more about Kyra's childhood, more about how she was first discovered in London as a black magic witch, more about how the Guardians formed or what led up to their formation. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.The author used the wrong word frequently (bumbling instead of bubbling, etc) and it was distracting and took away from the story. With dark amber eyes, and a controlled strength that fascinated his beast - the monster he's cursed to share a soul - Xander will do anything to push her away. But they could have spotted a few fleas BEFORE you released the book and helped strengthen your story. It's a partnership based on necessity, and she has no intention of letting down her guard with either group.

The world building was well done enough that I thought the book would be more so a world driven plot (events happening in the world) rather than the character driven plot it was. Well written supernatural stories the author is able make the world or cities as a character in the story. A likeable couple that faces challenges, a few villains in the story that I could not stand (I'm talking to you Frederick), and a wonderful supporting cast to round things out. Someone went to a lot of trouble to make it look like they attacked each other with scalpels, but it's bull.Kyra is a badass FMC, a black witch and you grow to like her the deeper into her background you get, She is protective of those who are unable to protect themselves. It felt like information overload with all these terms thrown out there that didn't get much explanation until you'd heard them 10 times and by then I was already confused.
