The Pioneer DDJ-SP1 is a great addition for DJs who are looking for more control in their Serato DJ-powered rig, and can also be used standalone with CDJs though the functionality is limited. With this powerful tool, you get to add pre-mapped dials and buttons to the software samples, including eight hot cues and more than 30 FX options powered by iZotope.There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. We do wish that some basic transport controls lived in this section as well – a simple pause/play button would be useful for using in a SP1 + mixer setup.

The 8 pads per deck for cue points, loops, samples, and Loop Roll/Slicer performance modes are almost worth the investment alone. The DDJ-SP1 is made for Serato software users who want to add effects when using a professional DJ setup of two players and a mixer such as the DJM-900SRT. The rubber pads and buttons are robust and durable, while the aluminum top plate gives the controller a premium look that will look good in any set-up. With the software sampler open and the pads in Sampler mode, you can choose between the 4 banks of samples — Banks A, B, C, and D — with the Parameter buttons. A voucher is included in the box with the DDJ-SP1 that entitles the user to a free download of the Serato Video sound and image control plug-in.Designed to free up lots of the controls of Serato when using it as a DVS system, the DDJ-SP1 is the first such controller from Pioneer DJ. The controller includes 16 rubber LED pads where 7 modes are able to be triggered – Hot Cue, Roll, Slicer, Sample, Auto Loop, Hot Loop and Manual Loop. The DDJ-SP1 is very compact but its buttons and knobs all feel very durable and can probably endure intense playing and travel. The Pioneer DDJ-SP1 is completely MIDI assignable through the USB port included as part of the hardware. Pioneer seems to have something for everyone in its collection of powerful controllers and add-on tools. Slip Mode - this allows more accurate and efficient loops, scratches and reverses whilst playback quietly continues, and at exactly the right point, the track is brought back which is all managed by the user. This midi controller is perfectly tuned to work with Serato software; however, you can also remap the 16 included pads to work with other software too.It also bears the same strong, confidence-inspiring build quality as the monstrous DDJ-SX, with seemingly identical control components and a robust chassis with an aluminum top panel. Because Serato’s sticking with the model of working with approved controllers only, you can’t use a controller of your choice to do the potentially minimal mixer and transport functions that help complete the DDJ-SP1. In multi-effects mode, the 1-3 buttons and encoders work to turn effects on/off, select the effect from a list, and adjust effect amount. If you don’t already have Serato Video activated, the DDJ-SP1 includes a license, so you can download and activate it. You’ll include this tool alongside a CDJ, turntable, or laptop and use the buttons pre-mapped onto the system to trigger samples, hot cues, and FX too.
