If you're into the overall vibe of Couchmaster's other products but don't need the special cushions to complete your setup, the Couchmaster Lapboard² will get you up and running comfortably in your living room. This lapdesk takes the gaming surface of the Cycon² and delivers it as a standalone product, giving you a massive, sturdy space with ample room for a full keyboard, along with a sizable mouse pad. You even get wrist rests, improving the ergonomics of this setup. It’s also an excellent system if you currently use wired peripheral devices. There is an internal space that helps you avoid wire issues and reduce cord-related clutter. Unlike testing a regular gaming keyboard, there are a lot of unique factors that go into judging a good lapboard. The quality of the keyboard and mousepad are important, along with the ever-present question of price, but I also looked at the comfort of the board on my legs and wrists—especially after longer periods of time. It’s also important to look at the ease of use, setup, and how much space the lapboard takes up in your living room when it’s not in use. There are factors beyond just gaming that are crucial to consider. Corsair’s new Gaming Lapboard is a real winner. The last time we reviewed the Lapdog, I said it took a no-compromises approach to living room gaming, but that a few compromises might’ve made for a better product. Now I can definitely answer that in the affirmative, as this second-generation version does make those compromises and is absolutely a better product. It’s large enough to still bring high-performance PC gaming into the living room, but small enough that you might actually want to keep it around. That’s all I could really ask for.

Wireless mouse (sold separately)|PC with a USB 3.0 or 3.1 Type-A port|Windows® 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 7*|Internet connection for iCUE software do The Sova is generally an easy-to-use lapboard, but it is a big piece of plastic that will be sitting around in your living room. Even if it doesn’t have much of an effect on your gameplay experience, finding a spot to store a lapboard like this is important. Razer's Turret is much smaller and designed to be easily stored, but the Sova is thinner than Corsair's Lapdog and doesn’t detach into two pieces. That made it much easier for me to find a place for it in my living room when not in use. The USB cable that plugs into the computer also has a point where it can disconnect (similar to a wired Xbox 360 controller) close to the board itself, which made putting away the cord a lot easier. One reviewer wrote: “Got this for couch gaming. I have a Logitech G915 TKL and the measurements between the k63 and G915 are a couple mm. You can force a 915 TKL in there though and it works beautifully for couch gaming.” One other criteria in comfort to consider is how wide of a lapdesk do you want. You should buy one that's wide enough to balance properly on your lap even if you're legs are spread out wide. What's more, your larger play space will also allow your hands to sit apart from each other at an ergonomic distance. When gaming, you always want to have your arms far apart and a wide lapdesk will allow you to do this. Other considerations include how much surface space is needed, whether you'd like USB or power options, and if an included keyboard may be something that interests you. Lapdesk FAQ What is a lapdesk? Do you like the idea of lounging while you work? Well, the HUANUO Lap Desk lets you do just that. With it, you get a large 21-inch by 13-inch surface area that can be raised to 11.5 inches or lowered to 8.5 inches, making it the perfect height to slide over your legs while resting in bed or on the couch. It’s even made of sturdy bamboo, so it’s both lightweight and durable.

Couch gaming and the living room PC are on the rise, but you don’t have to settle for a controller.

The Roc cat Sova, also available in a membrane version, is the classic middle of the road option when it comes to gaming lapboards. It’s smaller and cheaper than the Corsair Lapdog and more capable than the Razer Turret. You can absolutely get better keyboards for less money, but the Sova’s cushions, mousepad, and wrist wrest make it the best possible way to get a desktop experience while sitting on your couch. Unlike the Sova, the Lapdog doesn’t have any sort of wrist rest. The extra space created by the mousepad being taller than the keyboard was put above the keyboard instead of below it, which looks pretty, but ends up just being wasted space. Instead of being on a pad, my hand in the WASD position was resting on the slightly sharp metal edge of the Lapdog tray. It’s honestly surprising to me that anyone could have tried playing an FPS with their hand in that position and not seen it as a problem. Ironically, I actually had to take off the K65’s removable wrist rest to fit it into the Lapdog. This popular wireless gaming lapboard is produced by Corsair, a prominent computer hardware company based in California. Corsair is known for producing high-end gaming keyboards and a host of other peripherals.

If you’re looking for a premium wireless experience, the Razer Turret Wireless is one of your best options. The product is manufactured by Razer, one of the world’s most popular gaming hardware and software providers. While the product comes fitted with a wrist wrest, it’s not nearly as large as some of the other competitors on this list. While this might not be an issue for some gamers, it’s critical to note that the Razer Turret Mechanical can feel a bit compact . The Couchmaster CYCON consists of a gaming lapboard and two large memory foam cushions that support either side of the platform. Your arms rest on these cushions, which also lift the lapboard above your legs for ultimate comfort. Size is not to be underestimated as a factor in these tests. Sure, you want a desktop experience on the couch, but you also don’t want a big hunk of plastic taking up space in your living room. The Lapdog and the Sova are hard to hide, and you’ll almost definitely need to dedicate a spot specifically for storing them when they aren’t in use. The turret not only folds up, it comes with a neat little stand for both the mouse and keyboard that displays them nicely while they charge. Because of this, I never had a problem with battery life for either device, which Razer says is up to 40 hours on the mouse and a whopping four months on the keyboard, and they never got in my way. This product is designed for mobility. The foldable design means it reduces in size when you’re not using the keyboard. If you want a simple, sleek product that also benefits from high-end gaming hardware, it’s hard to see where you can go wrong with this product.

6. A tray table designed specifically for laptops

Still, it’s essential to keep in mind that this product is much larger than the other options on this list. If you want to take advantage of the full benefits of this product, expect it to take up most of your couch or bed. While it’s not optimized for comfortable gaming, the LapGear lap desk will fit laptops up to 15.6 inches, not to mention most mice and smartphones. The top comes in your choice of six colors and designs (including woodgrain and faux marble), and it has a built-in mousepad and phone slot. The bottom is lined with double bolster cushions that conform to your legs so you stay comfortable while working, watching, writing, or eating. Currently, it has an overall 4.7-star rating. This model is for both keyboards and laptops. If you use a laptop to game, this is the only option on our list that helps you take your whole computer off your desk. Instead of hunching over your screen, you can sit upright when you’re playing your favorite games. Razer also has another Turret model that is popular with gamers around the world. As one of the most prominent producers of gaming-specific computers and hardware, it’s no surprise that Razer has multiple options. This is the Gaming-Grade Mouse version of the product. In addition to being comfortable, a good lapboard has to be usable—both when you are and aren’t playing games. With the exception of the Razer Turret, these lapboards can be big and heavy, and where you put them when they aren’t in use isn’t something most people think about until they suddenly have a 2+ foot long keyboard tray taking over their coffee table. How easy cables are to manage and if you can get up to use the bathroom without throwing your setup into disarray make a real difference in how willing you’ll be to actually use your lapboard.

Roccat is a German hardware design company that produces a range of high-end computer hardware. It was recently taken over by Turtle Beach. The company has an acute focus on functionality, which helps it build lapboards explicitly designed for the needs of gamers.

I work from home a few days a week now and I just wasn't comfortable at the table with my laptop. With this, I can sit for hours on the couch and get work done. It has a nice spot for a portable mouse and a very convenient slot for a cell phone.”
