Description

I’ve been to the Teeling distillery in Dublin, and really enjoyed their tasting experience after the tour. This unmatched Irish malt is at the heart of all Bushmills Irish Whiskeys and creates a unique combination of smoothness and richness Aged in Oloroso sherry casks giving Black Bush rich fruity notes and a deep intense character A blend with a very high proportion of malt whiskey for a smooth taste and a long finish. Not every day can be an integrity single malt one, so when you're looking for an easy going, smooth and sherried dram the Black Bush will not disappoint. A staple Irish whiskey from Bushmills distillery, this expression combines an exceptionally high amount of malt whiskey married with a lighter grain whiskey, and then matured in former Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks before being bottled at 40% abv.

Sadly, I didn’t have enough to share with Hamish, but I thought a bonus comparison note would be appreciated by the Dramface audience. It’s stated on the Bushmills site that it spends 8 years in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks and sweet Bourbon barrels. The high malt mash-bill presents an acceptable level of quality especially if you're used to a Speyside whisky. This unique recipe means Black Bush has rich, fruity notes and a deep intense character, balanced by an incredibly unique smoothness.

The first-class Black Bush 1 l of Bushmills from Ireland flows in eye-pleasing amber hue into the brightly polished glass. Presented in a bespoke gift box, this makes the perfect present for the Irish whiskey fan in your life! This black Bush is a very nice budget whiskey, I find it better than standard jameson and better than original bushmills. Sharp on its own Sagatiba Pura Cachaça is wonderful once you add a little sugar and lime and enjoy it in the traditional Caipirinha way. More dark fruit notes than fresh fruit – sweet dates, fig rolls, California raisins, muscovado sugar, sawn oak and leather.

We recommend that you do not rely solely on the information presented here and that you always read labels, warnings, and directions before using or consuming a product. The banana and melon note from the nose are there too but then after a little pepper spice hit, there’s a tannic sourness that appears. Before you go on to the ‘ah here we go with another the older whiskey was way better than the whiskey we get today trope’, I also had a sample of the Special Old Liqueur (1970s) which was the forerunner to Black Bush and sadly it tasted of soap.

In a mixing glass, slowly stir the Black Bush, sugar syrup and angostura bitters over ice until chilled. While we entered the fermentation room, the tour guide informed us that the long fermentation time of Bushmills is what gives it the unique fruity characteristic that’s found in all expressions.

I'm certainly not an expert, but it is by far my favourite Irish, closely followed by Copeland Merchants Quay and Slane all of which are blends and all of which are aged, at some point, in sherry(Oloroso) casks. We find it best to enjoy it poured neat over ice but can also be drank with cola or poured over ice cream! Old Bushmills has the amazing ability to be all things to all men: a thoroughly modern distillery housed in a beautiful Victorian building; a boutique distillery that nevertheless produces global brands; and a working distillery that welcomes the public.
