Description

What unique experiences do you think have taught you valuable lessons to teach others? (For example, you had a very good boss who taught you how to effectively manage teams, or you had a painful experience that prepared you to help others dealing with grief.) Beyond the problem introduced by the large number of translations there are some passages where Warren uses the Bible extremely carelessly. Perhaps the clearest example of this is in chapter 10 where he discusses the blessing of surrendering to God. As support he quotes Job 22:21 as saying “Stop quarreling with God. If you agree with him, you will have peace at last, and things will go well for you.” When we look at the larger context of this passage we see that these are the words of Eliphaz, one of Job’s infamous friends. We see that Eliphaz is giving Job poor advice which God later condemns. Warren knows better than this!

This is my 5th time re-reading The Purpose Drive Life and I think this time is when it really connected for me. Maybe because I read it out loud, or maybe because while I was re-reading this book I recommitted my life to God, it can be a combination of the two but I was really impacted by this book is a strong way. Reading your book made me realize that I’ve been living my life so wrong, always starting on the wrong line, always running and always focusing on my own ambitions. I learned that I cannot fulfill God’s purposes in my life while focusing on my own plans. Rather than being spread among too many goals or ideas, your energy becomes solely purpose-focused—making you more effective in what you do.

What are the most important lessons God has given you to share with others in your mission? (For example, you spent much of your adult life as an unbeliever. As a result, you can clearly articulate how life before finding God differs from life after finding God.) Reason 6: Everything is by and for God. Everything in the universe was made by God to demonstrate his glory—that is, his essence, presence, power, and love. There’s no possible way for us to enhance God’s glory—it’s the most powerful, complete thing in the universe. Instead, we express our gratitude for all that God has given us by showing his glory. A second example is Isaiah 44:2. This is used in the heading of the second chapter and is rendered “I am your Creator. You were in my care even before you were born.” The author chooses to quote only the first part of the verse. The second part, we see, goes directly against what he wants to say. It reads “Do not fear, O Jacob My servant; And you Jeshurun whom I have chosen.” When viewed in the proper context we see that this verse applies only to a specific group (which is, once again, the Israelites). This does not mean that the verse has no relevance to us, but to suggest that it applies directly to the reader of The Purpose Driven Life is clearly wrong. Multiple church-wide events which will deepen the commitment of church members are make them active in their church and local communities.. For Days 29-35, Warren takes you through what it means to (i) answer God’s call to service, (ii) identify and use the SHAPE that God specifically gave to you (your Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experience), (iii) hone/nurture your shape, (iv) admit to and embrace your weaknesses and (v) become a true servant. YOUR 5TH PURPOSE: SPREADING THE WORD TO NONBELIEVERS (YOUR MISSION)

This spiritually mature character is already in you but hasn’t been shaped yet. What do you think is the main motivator driving your life? (For example, “I think that I’m driven by approval-seeking and pressure to be the best at work—I always feel that I should be doing more somehow, to stand out or get recognition.”)
