There are still some genuinely classic songs like “Like A Stone” and the overwhelming “Shadow on the Sun. This could have have sounded a lot better, so count this one as another album trashed by Rick Rubin’s production. It feels like it was made for that exact purpose and that's how I love to listen to this project the most.

Nostalgic to hear a ghost period, but especially before his drug abuse truly destroyed his vocal cords. His full length debut on Daptone Records is equal parts raw feeling and elegance and exudes confidence and charm. The vocal performance is something out of this world, I always love to sing along to try and hit the same notes, which is not easy, while the vocalist makes it look effortless, always leaving me impressed. Morello is a talented musician but his constant weird picking and tapping get on my nerves after a while, luckily on this record its less evident (but still does it way too much). My main issue is that these songs, while well-written, don't have the urgency of his Soundgarden stuff, and urgency is his finest attribute.

While the Godfather of techno's productions may have mellowed a touch his relentless approach to releasing records shows no signs of abating.

This is the self titled debut album from rock supergroup, featuring most members from Rage Against The Machine alongside Soundgarden vocalist (the late) Chris Cornell. As we mentioned earlier, there are those records whose sonic pallets are tailor-made for the warmer, less clinical treatment of a vinyl cut. Kind Of Blue is one of those works that as good as defines its genre, and in many ways it feels peculiar to play it on anything other than vinyl. A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential. Good debut record, as a fan of Soundgarden but not so much of RATM I wasnt really sure how this would go, I didnt like it much initially but has grown on me over the years.
