The large size of his null-rays (necessary for safety reasons) restrict his arm movement somewhat in robot mode, as they bump into his wings. The toy's bio makes a rare fictional reference to Machine Wars, describing the events of the series in the past tense. As another in an increasingly large number of reissues of the original Generation 1 Starscream toy, this entry in the Japanese-exclusive The Transformers Collection line of reissues decided to mix things up by giving the figure a full-scale redeco into show-accurate colors.

The toy doubles as the Starscream drones in Wings Universe and as an unnamed character in 2019 IDW continuity. For those into nice "real life" details working their way into vehicle modes, look in the cockpit and you'll see a seat and an instrument panel in front of it. I just wish they could have done it like the (vastly superior) Siege Starscream where the burners were between the foot parts. I held off on the siege one as it didn’t seem starscreamy enough for n (the face, the blockiness and the shellforminess to get to the alt mode). The Autobots and Decepticons have left Cybertron, but their battle rages on as they hurtle through space in pursuit of the Allspark. The first Universe toy of Starscream is a redeco of Cybertron Legends Thundercracker, transforming into an Su-37 fighter jet. Starscream was one of my favorite Decepticons as a kid, and being able to get this version of him really made my month. Upon the announcement of the second version of Masterpiece Skywarp, a competition for Starscream's add-on kit was revealed; giving him his iconic crown and cape from The Transformers: The Movie. Where’ as the Siege toy pretty much just turned Starscream into a cube under a pair of wings (and stuck his chest on his back), this tucks everything away nicely.

A planned-but-more-or-less-canceled redeco of Generation 2 Dreadwing, "Advanced Tactical Bomber" Megatron would have come with Starscream, a redeco of Dreadwing's partner Smokescreen. This mold was, of course, redecoed into Smallest Transforming versions of Skywarp and Thundercracker, and retooled into Thrust. As a first-wave figure, he has extra ankle articulation that is not present in later waves (a cut that was made to all Hero Mashers lines, not just the Transformers-branded ones). Starscream figure converts into classic G1 jet mode in 30 steps and comes with 2 weapon accessories. He includes two "HPI Null-Ray Laser Launchers," which can mount on his upper arms or under the wings in jet mode (or in any other 5 mm port, really). The fun part is spending too much money on Unite Warriors 'Screams so that you can have an all-Starscream combiner. If it weren't for the lack of landing gear, waist swivel and the wings undoing themselves every now and then, this'd be a solid 5 stars. Control art for Masterpiece Starscream which showed the figure wearing his Crown of Leadership (as seen in the coronation scene of the original animated movie) and a pair of otherwise-pointless flip-out notches in the finished toy's shoulders indicated that Takara planned for a set of clip-on coronation gear. This mold was redecoed into Alt-Modes Skywarp, Thundercracker, Acid Storm and Sunstorm, and would have been retooled into Dirge. This design was revived by Draxhall Jump when they were contracted to create the Marvel Megamorphs line for Toy Biz; Starscream ultimately became the Iron Man toy.
