Lost physical fight with Larsen at opener and wrong side of same player at second goal. Used ball well but had better nights defensively. First international start for Luton striker who worked hard but fresh aired his one big chance after 58 minutes and spent more time helping out midfield. These days, Stratos is best known for its commercials featuring the bright blue happy cow you can see on the wrapper. Just look at those udders go… There are so many different types of herring, or sild in Norwegian, which you also often can sample at breakfast buffets. Or if you’re in Trondheim Baklandet Skydsstation in have a great herring buffet for lunch. Norwegian Flatbread One thing we know about trolls is that they can smell the blood of Christians. This is something that’s played to great effect in the movie where the troll suddenly senses someone and it cuts to that person praying.

Rømmegrøtis porridge made with sour cream, and if that sounds gross I promise you it is anything but. It’s traditionally a summer dish, though it’s so rich and comforting that I love it in the winter.

Tørrfisk

The film works best when it’s leaning into the aspects of Norse mythology that make the troll of the title unique amongst giant movie monsters. I tend to agree with a few other reviewers that if it did it more it could be a much better movie. As with all such movies, the military make an appearance and, rather than the gung-ho US-style that we’re used to this is a much more thoughtful and restrained military, as you might expect from Norwegians. Don’t get me wrong, they still make the same old mistakes, but they look less stupid doing it! Here they’re mostly represented by Mads Sjøgård Pettersen whose Kaptein Kris puts a handsome and rugged face on the action. Shortly after the blast they hear supernatural cries emanating from the tunnel and then…something comes chasing them out, destroying everything in its path.

The vast majority of chocolate on sale in most Norwegian stores comes from just two companies: Freia and Nidar. Of course, major brands like Mars, Twix and Kinder are also available on the shelves in Norway, but that's not what this article is about. Okay no, sushi is not a traditional Norwegian food. However it was Norway that introduced the idea of salmon sushi to the Japanese. In the 1970s Norwegians were beginning to farm salmon and needed people to sell it to, and who likes eating fish more than the Japanese? They eventually convinced Japanese to include salmon on the sushi belt, and now it’s a staple. And as someone who used to work at a supermarket I can confirm that all of Norway does indeed eat tacos on Friday – or at least it seems that way judging from the amount of taco ingredients we would sell. Freia Melkesjokolade, or Milk Chocolate is a Norwegian classic! This is the most sold chocolate in Norway since the 1960s, and is marketed as en liten bit av Norge (a small piece of Norway). Personally I find it creamy and sweet, and its definitely one of my favorite Norwegian chocolates! It was engineer Jørgen Holmsen who discovered the ‘airy' Aero chocolate bar at a trade fair in Germany, and returned to the Nidar factory to try to create something similar.

Whale and seal meat

I promised myself that on this trip to Norway, I would try as many authentic Norwegian foods as possible. New favourites would be found. I would spare no expense and no tastebuds in this venture. No animal nor vegetable would be safe, and I would be a more knowledgeable man for it in the end: a better understanding of Norway and of its people though its many and varied gustatorial delights would surely ensue. Well, this is where it all begins, my friends.

Nugatti is Norway’s version of Nutella, but it is so much better than Nutella. Actually though! It’s more hazelnutty and has more of a fudge texture. Smash! My (New) Favourite Norwegian Junk Food. Posted by Colin Coutts on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009There’s also a Closed Caption version in English, Italian and Norwegian Bokmål. These not only show dialogue but describe the important sounds so they help hearing impaired viewers get a better sense of what’s going on. These are controversial, but if you’re visiting the north of Norway especially you might find whale and seal meat on menus. In fact when I stayed at Mary-Ann’s Polarrigg on Svalbard both whale and seal meat were served at the morning breakfast buffet! Fårikål On my recent trip to Svalbard, I stumbled upon Fruene cafe which did a roaring trade in its homemade chocolate. I did my bit for the cause and tested out a couple. My favourite? The creamy white chocolate bar complete with polar bear print! If, like me, you like to hear the movie in its original form and read translated subtitles then you have the options of 34 languages English, Arabic, French, German, European and American Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. There are also many smaller languages such as Basque and Catalan, showing that Netflix care about bringing this experience to as many people as possible.
