Description

Yellow soft paraffin is also known as yellow petroleum jelly. This is not an active ingredient as such, but works as a moisturiser by providing a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface. It is a very greasy moisturiser. Rowe, J., McCall, E. & Kent, B. (2008) “ Clinical effectiveness of barrier preparations in the prevention and treatment of nappy dermatitis in infants and preschool children of nappy age.” International Journal of Evidence Based Healthcare, vol. 6, pp. 3-23.

White soft paraffin is also known as white petroleum jelly. When you apply it to the skin it leaves a layer of oil on the surface of the skin that prevents water evaporating from the skin surface. It is a very greasy moisturiser. It is also water repellent and helps protect the skin from irritants.Lavender, T., Furber, C., Campbell, M., Victor, S., Roberts, I., Bedwell, C. & Cork, M.J. As well as being a moisturiser it can also be used as an effective soap substitute, to prevent the skin from drying out further. Coughlin, C., Eichenfield, L. and Frieden, I. (2014) Diaper Dermatitis: Clinical Characteristics and Differential Diagnosis. Pediatric Dermatology. [Online] Vol.31, pp.19-24. However, if the moisturiser is applied just before or after applying other medicated creams, ointments or lotions, the moisturiser could dilute the other medicated product. For this reason you should try to leave about 30 minutes between applying moisturisers and medicated skin products, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Other medicines containing the same active ingredient Hold the tube between the thumb and middle finger of the other hand, turn the tube upside down near to the eye, try not to touch the eye with the nozzle.

In conditions such as eczema, using a moisturiser regularly, even once the skin has improved, can help prevent flare-ups of this condition. Hoegar, P.H., Stark, S. & Jost, G. (2010) “ Efficiacy and safety of two different antifungal pastes in infants with diaper dermatitis: a randomized, controlled study.” Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, vol. 24, pp. 1094-1098. Pregnancy and breastfeeding Although this doesn’t cause issues to the skin, the use of bleach and heating the product to combine the two is not good for the environment. This is because of the nasty fumes that bleach gives off and adds into the air that we breathe. At a time when global warming is a bigger issue than ever, we asked the question: Is the bleaching of the product to purely alter the appearance worth the impact on the environment? Our answer is no. Therefore we have created our take on Petroleum Jelly, called Veil Yellow Soft Paraffin. An unbleached product that is excellent for a wide range of skin conditionsAtherton, D.J. How canyellow soft paraffin affect other medicines? By smoothing and softening the skin moisturisers can increase the absorption of other medicines that are applied to the skin. (2009) A 3 year retrospective audit of nappy rash in all infant stoma reversal patients who had a stoma for >6months in Yorkhill Hospital. Unpublished data. You might be asking yourself, how does Veil Soft Paraffin compare to the leading brands? Well because we do not add any bleach to our product is it much better for the environment. Because the product does not contain bleach, our Soft Paraffin also has a slightly darker appearance. However, our product is still British Pharmacopoeia Grade meaning that it 100% safe to use on the skin. Not only is our Soft Paraffin environmentally friendly, but it is also an incredible multi-use product. AproDerm Gel is a highly moisturising gel, without the greasiness of an ointment, which actively draws and retains moisture within the skin and provides a protective barrier to help reduce dryness and irritation. It is also an effective pre-bathing emollient so can be applied to skin prior to bathing to prevent it from drying out even further, whilst protecting it from the irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing products such as soaps, shower gels and shampoos.
