I have read about resetting the airbag ecu, replacing it, replacing just the pretensioners, replacing it all. I don’t want to just throw money at it until it’s solved as the parts are expensive and also could do with resolving the problem swiftly, so am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to finding what the fault is and getting it working properly. It desperately needs to go for an MOT soon as it has expired and is parked on the road. I do not know anyone who would turn a blind eye to the airbag light being on. If your not sure if either pretensioner is functional you can test them with a volt/ohm meter as shown at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsOM58mBM7Y

It’s a fairly basic system that simply measures resistance. If there is a poor connection, the airbag has already fired, a break in the wire or the airbag is disconnected, the resistance will be very high. If 1 of the wires is short circuiting then the resistance will be very low. Either way, the light will come on. The Right Resistance This video will show you step by step instructions on how to make a DIY airbag tester so you can test your airbag without the need for an expensive airbag tool. So you didn’t know all this and your airbag warning light is already on? Don’t panic, they can always be turned off. Again it’s time to do your research online because, depending on your car, sometimes you can get away with resetting the light yourself by following a certain procedure of key-turning or pressing buttons in a specific sequence. For the most part though you’ll either need a specialist diagnostic scanner to do the job or will have to take a trip to a local garage and hand over a few quid. Steer clear of the main dealers for this – most will really pull your pants down on the price. I took it to the dealer to get the crash module reset - this stopped the hazards turning on when I turned the ignition on. They also said the following fault codes were present: Maybe you keep having an airbag light come on, perhaps you have fitted an aftermarket steering wheel, maybe you are tired of the seat side airbag connections failing. Of course, there are other possibilities such as wishing to use aftermarket seatbelt reels or you don’t want to pay for an airbag but you want the car to pass an MOT.Il aide au diagnostic d'un airbag défaillant, d'un ressort d'horloge d'airbag et de tendeurs de ceintures de sécurité défaillants, etc.

I have been struggling to find information due to the sheer amount of different vehicles and all the results I can find are either for newer models or for pretensioners on the receiver stalk rather than on the belt. Put some of the smaller heat shrinking tubes over the soldered portion of the needles and the resistor. I thought I might as well try replacing the side airbag sensor at the base of the b pillar but the airbag light is still showing on the dash. Disappears for a couple of seconds after ignition but then appears and stays on. In the UK, however, having the airbag light on or even flashing is an MoT failure, meaning your car can’t legally drive on the right. Also, in a lot of cases, your car will automatically disable the rest of its airbags when any airbag is causing a warning light. Which could be dangerous. So, here’s how to turn off your airbag warning light.I tried putting a 2.5 ohm resistor in the plug instead of connecting it to the new airbag but light still comes on. Cut the bigger shrinking tube about half of the total length from the resistor to the needles and insert it over the two wires leaving only the two needles out. Once you know what resistance should be in a particular airbag circuit, then you can test the component to see if it is within tolerances.

With this information, you can then test the component to see if it falls within the required parameters. Some vehicles will require the use of a diagnostic scan tool along side the resistance tool as you may need to erase the fault codes until the light goes out.

You can test your resistor first to make sure it suits your needs. It should be between 2 and 2.4-2.6 ohms.)
