Leca has zero nutrients. Depending on the brand, Pon often comes with nutrients included (although typically only for the short-term). Both products are best used with a fertiliser made for hydroponics ( GT and Dyna-Gro are the two popular hydro ferts in NZ for indoor plants). It is important to talk about how to correctly use Lechuza Pon as I used it wrong in the beginning.

Arvin: I would say it's a free-for-all. Each plant will have its own dependent factors, such as the type, the variety, of plant, location, humidity, watering requirements, temperature and the actual requirements for the substrate itself. So all of these factors need to be taken on board in terms of when you're transferring any type of plant. Whether it's roses, Hoyas, succulents, orchids, each plant will have its own unique functions that you need to be looking out for. We categorise them into two areas. The first ones, the heavy-wetting plants, they will, obviously, require wetter conditions, damper conditions, and generally, in that case, is we would have a reduced dry phase. You would water, once that water is taken in by the plant you'd have a one to five days break where you wouldn't want to water. Then there's the second stage, which is where some plants will require drier conditions or drier periods where they're not being watered. We generally educate all of our customers to observe a type of dry phase, whether it's a slightly reduced one or a very long one. In terms of a full dry cycle, I would recommend a standard drying phase of anywhere between three and fourteen days on a normal type planter, which requires slightly drier periods of watering. Generally, the reason being is that it will develop a strong rooting system and, as the roots then span out to search for water, the health of the plant increases because it's now trying to span out, trying to gauge a larger area of the planter which they probably didn't venture into before.

Zalety Lechuzy PON

The substance zeolite stabilizes the ideal PH balance for a healthy plant growth in your LECHUZA planter. Macro and micronutrients remain permanently. Lechuza say you don't have to worry about soil remaining on roots when you transition plants to Pon, however I'd still recommend doing the best job you can to remove excess soil if you're going for the 100% Pon method. If going for the 25% or 50% methods (more about all 3 was covered further up), there's no need to remove soil or potting mix (or fern fibre, spagmoss or your substrate of choice), from around the roots. Add a layer of Pon to the bottom quarter or so of the pot. Rest the root ball on that layer then fill the remainder with Pon, or if adding Myco for the roots, sprinkle a little Myco on the bottom Pon layer, directly under where the root ball will go, before adding the plant and the filling with Pon. Being smaller and heavier than Leca, Pon secures and holds plants in place better.

In this area Pon and Leca are similar. Both eliminate some pests, and make others easier to manage. But neither are guarantees you'll suddenly be pest-free. Being soil-less, and super airy, both reduce the likelihood of soil-loving baddies like Fungus Gnats in particular, as well Mealybugs and Root Mealy along with moisture-loving pathogens like fungus.

I will be converting this scindapsus pictus 'jade satin' commonly known as jade satin pothos to Lechuza Pon. She has been potted in New Zealand sphagnum moss for over a year now, well over due for a repotting. As you can see, the root system has grown pretty extensively in the sphagnum moss. Jade satin pothos in New Zealand sphagnum moss When producing LECHUZA-PON, multiple sievings minimize the amount of fine particles in the substrate. This prevents an increase of silt in the root area and sustains long-lasting capillary action. Step 3: Please do not dump waste water filled with dust down your indoor residential drains! Keep reading items #1 and #2 in the Important Notes section below for ways to manage your wa Important Notes: Effectively you can take the whole plant including the soil you have in the previous pot and plant it into the Lechuza planter and add in Lechuza Pon.

I will water the plant using the shower method in its existing media to start. Step 1: Clean the roots! The main difference is that Lechza Pon is a mix of different ingredients such as Lava stone, zeolite, and pumice as well as fertilizer whereas perlite has one source only. LECHUZA-PON has a continuous capillarity up to the planter's surface. Even undergrowth and small rooted plants get the perfect amount of water this way. Jane: Well, that sounds like a lot of work saved. So let's talk about feeding. You said that the Pon comes with an inbuilt fertilizer. How long does that last and when do we need to think about starting to feed plants that are in Pon?Two of the best ones on the market here in NZ are Dyna-Gro and GT (Growth Technology). For light-feeders and plants more salt- and pH-sensitive, like Orchids, Hoya and some Aroids, Dyna-Gro and GT are free of urea, and GT is also free of chlorides (the most common, highest-salt ingredient in most fertilisers), and is pH balanced. Both are superb. rule: keeping the plant in soil and adding pon within the drainage level, using a drainage barrier to keep the soil and pon separate. Removing the roots from the moss isn't the nightmare it seems, here are some tips to make it easier:

Like it sounds, the shower method just means a thorough top-water, really flushing the pon and roots thoroughly with water, letting excess freely drain out. This method needs a pot with drainage holes. This method is also used with Leca, especially at first to help a plant adjust to it. You want the Pon to be evenly moist throughout after watering (Pon slightly changes colour as it dries out). As long as you do not forget to fertilize every 2-3 weeks, you should be fine. Pon vs Leca – The main advantage is that it is more granular and can be used with slow-release fertilizer LECHUZA-PON has an adjusted bulk weight. Your plant is firmly supported within the planter, which is important for larger plants. LECHUZA-PON ensures that your LECHUZA planter remains stable and is also perfectly suited for use outdoors. Complete replant into 100% pon. Rinse away all the organic matter on the rootball and place directly into pon.Want to make a regular donation? Join the On The Ledge community on Patreon! Lechuza says pon does not have to be rinsed, but some growers like to flush/rinse pon to remove smaller particles that can impede drainage. If you're just using Pon at the 25% (drainage layer only) or 50% method (drainage layer, side wall and top), you don't need to rinse the roots as the remaining 50% to 75% of your pot will be filled with your choice of substrate like potting mix. Har din plante brug for støtte, skal du sikre dig at du kun bruger plantestøtter, som er lavet i et uorganisk materiale som fx plastic eller metal, da de ellers vil mugne.
