I could go on and on about this book, but I will just sum up by saying: art is great, writing is great, story is fun and interesting and great for dramatic outloud readings, and the story is an excellent lesson in the silliness of childhood fears. With a handful of jaunty songs, it cleaves relatively close to the standard Little Angel picturebook adaptation formula –the age advice is seven-plus, but a brave four or five-year-old would be fine, I’d venture.

I really don't think kids should be underestimated in their intelligence to appreciate the interesting art that mixes striking artwork and snippits of pictures of real-life objects.The Wolves in the Walls, by Neil Gaiman, brings to light numerous philosophical issues concerning knowledge, metaphysics, and ethics. See Neil speaking about his new novel, Fortunately, the Milk, a time-travelling adventure for young readers featuring aliens, dinosaurs, volcano gods and a pint of milk that saves the universe! The family does just that, seeing what the wolves are doing in the house (they watch TV at full volume, eat jam, throwing leftovers everywhere, dance). When Lucy hears noises in the walls of her home, she tries to warn her family that the wolves are coming. PBS Kids’ set of resources for talking to young children about race and racism might also be useful for educators.

The book gained great popularity, was translated into foreign languages, and a successful children's musical was staged based on it. The end piece is designed to be a descriptive nightmare where the child experienced it learns what to do in their life after they wake up.

After years of going to the theatre together, The Wolves in the Walls is probably the first show that my nine-year-old goddaughter Blue and I really experience together.
