As we suspected when we first saw this tool, the Makita cordless drywall sander works with their AWS Auto-Start Wireless system. Basically, the Makita XLS01 includes a Bluetooth AWS chip that works with their 18V X2 cordless vacuum. It automatically (and wirelessly) powers-on and powers-off the Makita XCV16 cordless dust extractor automatically when the tool activates. The problem is the design within the unit and at the head. There is far too much resistance in the tube and too many losses around the sanding pad. The tube design is too restrictive and there should be a tighter seal around the sander to pull the dust into the unit. The roller wheels and square design is great if you don't care about getting dust everywhere. With all of the options available for sanding drywall and each model designed for a specific sanding surface, it's essential to know the different types of drywall sanders and their uses for each sanding project.
