You've got the Hamilton head manning the wheel on the original songs and he accomplishes things super well with his ingenuity. I found Encanto's work to be a lot more diverse than some of his previous work, but still holding the same quality and fluidity that he has mastered for so long. The opening number is fast and exhilarating, the mixture of stage show with the Latino spin I expected of him. Soon, the other numbers follow, always having that Broadway feel, but being curtailed to the movie to help hold the emotions of the movie moment and still be fun to sing. And he manages to add more genres to his repertoire in this film, and I loved the chorography they instill in the movies helping elevate the words in the quirky mixture of comedy and dance. Helping diversify the mixture of music, comes the nonmusical works, a score that again blends the festive nature of Latin culture and guides it towards serious sequence moments and festive parties. I actually preferred these moments to the big numbers and I absolutely loved how they brought the energy without being too extravagant. Cobo, Leila (January 12, 2022). "With 'Encanto,' Colombia Is Finally Seen and Not Just Heard". Billboard. Archived from the original on January 14, 2022 . Retrieved January 23, 2022. No surprise, Disney is capable of masterpieces, and they continue to push the envelope for making these movies come to life. Encanto is certainly an incredible display of movement, smooth transitions and numbers that take the energy of Disney and amplify it tenfold to unleash on the big screen. It's dynamic, it's fun, and it utilizes so much of the environment that it presents itself as the musical it set out to be. The design explodes out in an amazing color, fantastic designs, and that campy details that bring you the happiness of a close knit Disney family. It's certainly a core element of the feels of the movie, and will easily capture your attention within seconds of starting. Domestic 2021 Weekend 52". Box Office Mojo. The final version of the film is deliberately vague as to the timeframe in which it is set, but drew inspiration from early 20th-century Colombia. [28] After exploring the 1950s, the directors decided to shift the look of the film to the early 1900s and to use a "folkloric Colombian aesthetic". [24] :22 At the beginning of the 20th century, the country endured the Thousand Days' War, which resulted in the populations of entire villages fleeing to save themselves as depicted in the film. [28] Writing [ edit ] Like most Disney Animation films, Encanto went through "many different versions" in its development, as various story ideas were explored and discarded. [24] :17 The ideas discarded along the way include: a young modern-day woman is transported by a magical doorknob to another world; [24] :17 Agustín was the family patriarch who discovered Encanto and personally built Casita there; [24] :17 the film would have been expressly set in the 1950s and featured cosmopolitan and modern fashions, [24] :22 as well as motor vehicles and a trip to the big city where Alma had originally come from; [24] :146 Casita was an extension of only Alma's personality, rather than the entire family; [24] :41 the film would have followed the story of multiple generations and Casita over a 100-year timespan; [24] :49 Mirabel was desperately trying to find her magical gift, rather than merely expressing frustration with not being granted one; [24] :71 the colors of Mirabel's world as seen from her perspective would have reflected her emotional state as she narrated the first two acts, and then changed over to more realistic colors when the film shifted to Alma's point of view in the third act; [24] :76 Luisa's room would have been made out of stone and appeared "boring" to reflect her sense of responsibility, but would have concealed a "secret exit" to a hidden room similar to a "theme park" where she could have fun; [24] :94 and Isabela at one point had a "dorky" suitor named Bubo who came from the big city.
