Turning HDR on severely washes out any SDR content. You can use Windows HD Color settings to compensate but I recommend just turning HDR on when you plan to use it. The Samsung is excellent when it comes to HDR. The CRG90’s protocols demand a consistent brightness level of 600 nits and a peak of 1000 nits, and this screen can frequently manage that: it got beyond 600 nits in full-screen white tests while sometimes dipping to 592 nits, and it managed to hit burst levels at 1000 nits – although in some areas it did occasionally dip to 958 nits. It has tremendous screen quality, with superb colours, great contrast and an HDR implementation that actually works. The punchy, vibrant images are joined by AMD FreeSync and solid physical design that delivers good adjustment and an effective OSD.

However, the density level still isn’t able to match 4K screens – a 32-inch 4K panel sits up at 138ppi, and even 40-inch 4K panels serve up 110ppi. 4K screens also have more vertical pixels, and extra vertical space will be more beneficial in some situations. No built-in KVM support. You can use a separate KVM switch or software KVM solutions like Barrier, ShareMouse or Synergy for this. Many games run just fine with the full resolution and aspect ratio. Some like Control don't support the resolution out of the box but can be patched or config modded. The monitor does not come with the screws for the VESA mount. According to the manual the correct size is '4.0 mm Φ, 0.7 pitch * 10.0 mm long'.Samsung’s panel maxed out the sRGB colour gamut, so there are no colour issues with games. It covered 89.5% and 82.8% of the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB gamuts, too. The former figure is fine for HDR and only half a percent behind what DisplayHDR 1000 demands, but the latter is a little low and precludes this screen from the most demanding colour work. The CRG90 looks excellent, with a smart metallic stand and slim bezels. It’s not as outrageous as the XG49VQ, with its extravagant stand and bigger logos, so it’ll fit in at the office too. However, if you have a the cash and feel like you would benefit from a 32:9 widescreen, the Samsung CRG90 is the best widescreen monitor out there right now, thanks to its image quality, HDR abilities and all-round strong design. In other screen modes the Asus’s contrast level dropped down to a more conventional 1500:1, though, while the Samsung maintained its levels across more of its screen modes. The Asus’s vast contrast means that it’s a little bolder and brighter than the Samsung, although it can look a little too intense. Samsung’s panel doesn’t reach those levels, but it still has fantastic contrast – and its better colours mean that its images look a little more realistic. And both screens are superb when placed in the market; when it comes to colours and contrast, they’re better than the vast majority of other gaming panels. When running games at 3840x1080 for performance reasons I recommend using a sharpen filter (e.g. Nvidia Freestyle sharpen or AMD Radeon Image Sharpening) or the display sharpness control to make it less blurry. Resolution is ~1M pixels less than 4K 16:9. So you can look at 4K benchmarks and add a bit more frames on top of that to figure out roughly how your GPU is going to perform. Sharpness: 56 or 60. 60 adds a little bit of sharpening. Try higher if running at 3840x1080 resolution to reduce blurring.

The 1800R curve is standard in the industry now – and it has a side effect of limiting uniformity issues The width can also boost productivity. It’s great for apps where horizontal real estate is helpful, as the Samsung CRG90 is effectively two 1440p screens without a bezel – and its picture-by-picture modes can force the screen to actually function like this.

I recommend leaving Windows scaling to 100% and instead use the zoom feature or font size features of individual apps if you want larger text. Hz works. Nvidia Control Panel reports 6-bit color with this setting. Same happens for any lower resolution at 144 Hz. Could be usable for gaming. Some games will only show 120 Hz option though. Refresh rate, response time, low input lag, screen size and screen adjustment options are disabled if Freesync is turned on. Can be turned on/off in the menu or per preset. Standard Engine = 70-120 Hz Freesync range, Ultimate Engine = 48-120 Hz Freesync range. The display might make some noise on the right side. I am not quite sure what causes this because it doesn't occur all the time. It sounds similar to the fizz of a soda drink. One of the CRG90’s biggest advantages is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. This is a top-tier HDR standard that outstrips most of the other consumer monitors on the market, including the Asus.
