Preceded by the single “Ghosts Again” on 9 February and the track “My Cosmos Is Mine” on 9 March (on streaming platforms) as well as the single “Wagging Tongue” released on 7 July, it is the first Depeche Mode studio album to be recorded and released as a duo, after the death of co-founder and keyboardist Andy Fletcher on 26 May 2022. Released in 1990, Strange Too (aka "Strange Too – Another Violation by Anton Corbijn") was shot in full-color, opening up a visual/sonic palette for the director and the band as they explored songs from Violator plus bonus videos for "Halo"and "Clean. In some ways, it feels like Memento Mori inevitably offers something of a sonic career summary for Depeche Mode. The spectrogram of the vinyl version rises above 20kHz (yellow arrow), with frequency peaks above 30kHz (white arrow) which are due to the music, but mostly to the distortion generated by the vinyl playback technique. The deluxe CD edition does not offer any bonus tracks and contains the same 12-track album as the other formats. The Spectrum allows to check the tonal balance of the music (balance between treble, medium and bass sounds) and to detect process that may have been carried out during the recording, the mixing, mastering or manufacturing phases. The album's 12 tracks chart a vast expanse of moods and textures, from its ominous opening to its closing resolve-running the gamut from paranoia and obsession to catharsis and joy, and hitting myriad points between. Their progression in their latest years have heard them move into darker, peakier, sadder and more industrial themes while drawing on deathly topoi. The band's progression in their latest years have heard them move into darker, peakier, sadder and more industrial themes, as they make do with a future-present that wasn't promised to them in the 80s, while drawing on deathly topoi and nodding to Ingmar Bergman.Feel free to chime in about your own favorites in the Comments section below following the review text, if you wish. Depeche Mode's new album Memento Mori is a rather bittersweet one for fans - they are of course happy to hear fresh material from their favour electronic doom mongers, but it is also the last time they will hear music from the group featuring corer member Andrew Fletcher, who suddenly passed away at the start of the sessions. And we will question the quality of the master used for the vinyl record, which is not what one would expect. A poster is also included, and the band logo on the cover is even done up in fancy red foil stamping.

Memento Mori is Depeche Mode's 15th studio album and their first as a two-piece lineup of Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, following co-founder Andrew "Fletch" Fletcher's tragic passing in 2022. The record - which comes on wax and in a lovely embossed sleeve here - centres on the mood of grief after the passing of the band's founding member Andrew "Fletch" Fletcher, this is the first LP by a Depeche Mode made up of only two remaining members: Dave Gahan and Martin Gore. Along the way on the 22-city tour the band will also play multiple nights at Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena, Paris’ Accor Arena, Madrid’s Wizink Center, Milan’s Mediolanum Forum, and more. Depeche Mode doesn’t seem to have lost their inspiration for making compelling new music that can stand the test of time, as well as stand alongside their past work.

To wit: Depeche Mode have placed 54 songs in the UK Singles Chart and 17 albums in the UK Top 10 to date, and they’ve sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Strange/Strange Too will be released through SME worldwide, excluding USA, Canada and Mexico (where the title will be released through Warner Music Group). Roughly, and perhaps arguably, Depeche Mode is the modern-day electro-pop/techno/dance music equivalent to The Rolling Stones. The curves overlap completely between 300 Hz and 10 kHz, below 300Hz, the white curve is very slightly above the blue curve (green area), which will give a little more bass to the vinyl (about 1dB below 150 Hz). On the Memento Mori tour, Hublot and Depeche Mode are proud to announce they'll be supporting and raising funds for The Conservation Collective, a UK-based environmental charity.

Other than that laser-etched nit, Memento Mori is an excellent album, and a fine addition to the Depeche Mode catalog.
