Description

to be honest i bought this scent because various forums etc said that it smelt very similar to the discontinued Gaultier 2. He became more important in 1960, when French celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot, Françoise Hardy, and Alain Delon began wearing his designs. It's quite sweet and floral at times to where it almost can come off unisex but the scent is grounded in patchouli, woods and musk, so it feels plenty manly for me. Altamir at face value smells like a clubber; no surprise there, considering who Bogart and its licensed brands makes perfumes for and generally how they're worn by those clientele.

My nose detects cyclamen aldehyde (hence 'cyclamen' in the notes pyramid), lending a green, ever so slight musty edge—don't be alaramed, trust me, 'musty' doesn't necessarily equal off-putting, it just lends a character that one finds in the bouquet of the flower, and its a quality that I quite admire as a shade in fragrance. People with some knowledge in this area will compare Altamir to Minotaure by Palomo Picasso (1992), Sculpture Homme by Nikos (1994), or more-recent such scents as the discontinued semi-venerated Gaultier 2 by Jean-Paul Gaultier (2005).Altamir, spellbinding…Both fresh and sensual, Altamir is an accessible, modern and original perfume. The sillage and projection were monstrous for the older batch, mediocre for the recent one, though Altamir gets cloying quickly with a heavy hand.

However, I must admit that this perfume was a revelation for me, mostly because I bought it without smelling it but merely letting myself be convinced by the web's descriptions. Now I can detect some vetiver and musk, but I think it is at this stage that the scent will run for a while. It brings me back to my clubbing days somehow, which I can revisit in my mind for nostalgia (thanks Ted!It is inspired by ""Altamira"", an important Spanish site where we can admire paintings made with red, brown, ochre pigments that decorate the stone.
