I recently had an opportunity to visit the Sugarlands Distilling Company in Gatlinburg, TN and of course we brought home a variety of delicious moonshine. Aside from sipping it straight as an after-dinner treat, a splash or three of homemade hazelnut liqueur makes coffee and hot chocolate more fun. Many people love snacking on the raw or roasted nut themselves but the flavor has also become quite popular in plenty of other ways. There are many other cocktails that can be made with rum, such as the daiquiri, the hurricane, and the mai tai.

Created by the exceptionally clever minds behind Warner’s gin in Northamptonshire, this spiced rum is infused with sustainable ingredients, which would have otherwise been wasted. One-fifth of the blend is aged in oak for up to six years, and is boasts notes of lemongrass, camomile and black pepper, all of which is said to make for a great extra-spicy Caipirinha. The super-premium, limited edition rum has taken inspiration from historical rums in the brand’s collection, alongside the unique flavour profiles they exhibited over half a century ago. This is followed by a complex woody, slightly bitter upfront flavour profile of pure condensed hazelnuts.Your liqueur is also handy in the kitchen, making a great addition to cakes, biscotti, and ice cream. Frangelico is a hazelnut-flavored liqueur that is often enjoyed on its own, but it can also be used in cocktails. A neutral vodka will allow the cherry and hazelnut flavors to shine the strongest, but you can always play with flavored vodkas to add something extra!
