Smale effectively brings her audience into Cassandra’s singular mind and along on her journey in what feels like a brave voyage of discovery. She's stunned to discover that she has a strange ability to manipulate time, rewinding moments and re-doing them to fix what she feels like she broke. I’ve spoken to you about this on multiple occasions— Cassandra, look at me when I’m talking to you.

Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s such a disappointment because I was riding the high of my last book or if it’s just a bad book. She and those around her had no idea (yet the person who reveals this to her is suddenly an expert on the matter, even knowing modern discourse on it, which even most psychologists aren’t aware of). I actually got most of these references but even I found them tiresome, so I can’t imagine what someone who’s not into myths must be thinking when they read these segments.Ronald now appears to be casually assessing me as if I’m a half-ripe avocado, so I stare at the floor until he reaches a conclusion. I understand that it was Cassandra's obsession, but there were so many insertions into the story that it became boring and I started skimming over them. From activities to do with the kids, or must-try recipes to enjoy outside, there’s a lot to look forward to this season. Our highest-paying client just dropped us because of your quote, unquote relentlessly grating behavior. Finished with cleaning, I sling my handbag over my shoulder and my coat over my arm, hold the box against my stomach, awkwardly hook the plant in the crook of my elbow and try to get the agency door open on my own.

That this book set out with a very obviously autistic person (special interest, struggles with sensory input, gets meltdowns, communicates differently, takes things literally, struggles with certain foods) made me really happy initially, because I thought the focus would be about her living her live as an autistic woman. The 'mystery woman' - this character (i wont explain more as I don't want spoilers) but this woman that keeps appearing and getting brushed off by Cassandra. So it’s safe to say the author knows more about this late diagnosis at the age of 31 for Cassie than I do.Holly Smale has done an excellent job with this adult debut and I'd highly recommend it but do be prepared to ignore the housework for several hours once you've got into it. Ronald blinks and reaches out a hand; I move quickly away so his fingers won’t touch mine, nearly dropping the pot in the process. With the summer quickly rolling along, the list of things to do and enjoy just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Cassandra Penelope Dankworth is not having a good day when she gets to work only to find the cherry on the rotten cake of the day is she’s being fired.

My colleague Sophie leans across our desks as I stick a wilting plant under my arm just to look like I’m not leaving another year of my life behind with literally nothing to show for it. What do you think your first impressions of Cassandra would be if you met her toward the beginning of the book? but every page contained very detailed (and often obscure) references, to the point where I skimmed entire sections. I hope you and your book club will enjoy my discussion reading guide for Cassandra in Reverse by Holly Smale. After a meltdown (maybe a panic attack) she discovers she can go back in time and have some do-overs.

A passion for travel, adventure and wearing no shoes has since led her all over the world: she has visited 27 countries, spent two years working as an English teacher in Japan, volunteered in Nepal, been bartered for in Jamaica and had a number of ear-plugs stolen in Australia, Indonesia and India. I loved the connections in the story and the overall appreciation for the differences in people I felt by the end of the story. Their husbands, Sam and Jason, have summered together on the island since childhood, despite lifelong grudges and numerous secrets.
