Description

It feel like a while since we last saw any Warcry content. In fact, it’s been just shy of a year (as in really just shy – by a matter of days, it turns out) since we saw the release of Catacombs.

Warcry: Crypt of Blood starter set » Tale of Painters Review: Warcry: Crypt of Blood starter set » Tale of Painters

The first expansion for Warcry come out not very long after release. The “ Monsters and Mercenaries” book came out 7 September 2019, not very long after the initial release. This expansion was focused on adding a few extra allies, big monsters and other elements. Those rules are purely optional and very focused on campaign gaming (so no rules bloat yet). We’re not sure who Lord Leech is, but the Rotmire Creed do seem to like green clothes and diseases. To determine who won initiative, both players count up all unique rolls (singles) on their six dice. The player who has the most unique (non-duplicate or singles) dice wins “initiative”. If they are equal, it is a roll off.Disengage:if you start a move action with a fighter that is within 1″ of an enemy fighter, you cannot move further away from the fighter than the distance you started (so you can lap around, but no move away). If you want to move away, you need to take the disengage action. It simply means that you can make a move of 3″ and you must end more than 1″ away from all enemies. Warcry is Games Workshop’s next game with a whole lot of room for expansion. It’s a skirmish sized game and the starter has everything you need to dive right in the and get caught up in the battle frenzy: Double means that it requires a “double pool” from the initiative roll to use. The same goes for triple and quad.

Doing an activation, a fighter can also use one ability. When you use an ability, you discard the initiative dice you used for it. If you only have one fighter left, you can use more than one ability with the same fighter. Warcry is not going to be a stable on the competitive scene in the long run. Those kinds of players will find more of what they want in Underworlds, AoS, 40k or other skirmish games that do this better. The wild dice can be used in that hero phase or saved for later hero phases (making it possible to store up for a “big turn). Each wild dice can only be used once. In the Hero Phase: both players rolls 6 dice each, called the initiative dice. This roll is used to determine which player goes first and what special abilities (either from the Warband Ability Card or from the 5 generic abilities) each player can use. Why not combine a starter set with some new expansive content to keep both the new players and the veterans happy?

You’ll still play through several rounds of combat, in which you and your opponent take turns activating one of your models, and doing two actions with it (move, fight, and so on). You’ll still roll six dice at the beginning of each round, making a note of multiples of any dice result, to spend those combos on special abilities that round. You can still climb up vertical terrain for bonuses, and you can still jump (or fall) off them for lolz. Enter Crypt of Blood, a much smaller (and cheaper) box containing two slimmed-down Warcry warbands (that were originally meant for Warhammer Underworlds, but more on that in a minute) and a couple of bits of scenery to introduce you to the whole system. It’s designed to be an unintimidating, lightweight introduction to the system that neither breaks the bank, nor terrifies the life out of the inexperienced hobbyist. Warcry: Crypt of Blood Starter Set Review – Contents Facing off against the Horns of Hashut are the Rotmire Creed, twisted followers of Lord Leech.** These hardy warriors seek to transform the verdant forest into a diseased swampland – a perfect place for their deity to call home.
