Description

While the story is a new one, the world is the same and this familiarity provides a comfortable awareness to what goes on and what to expect. hour book 2 hours of which are inner monolog about being a strong woman, descriptions of people and places the characters never talk to or interact with. From intricacies of plotting and scene-setting to character development, Beswick expanded his skill set as he poured his heart into the pages. I will get to book three only to see if we revisit book one characters or if we get any closer to tying it all together.

The premise for this book was so promising, and I was really hoping for strong, powerful female characters. Some of them had nice interactions on the (very short, page count-wise) sailing section and then we get to the end and watch half of them get slaughtered in an attack and I couldn't even tell you their names. While I wouldn't say the writing improves significantly since the last book, it's good enough to warrant an enjoyable read. This book and me on the edge of my seat till the very last word and (*spoiler-ish*) That ending, I was not ready for.A Sea of Sorrow and Scorn is the gripping second book in the Tales of Levanthria fantasy-retelling series. Overall, this is a fairly short book but spans so much time and distance that the proper detail is not given. I wasn't anticipating a super great story based on the first novel, but since I'd already downloaded it to my kindle I decided to nice it a try, and I was pleasantly surprised! Right, positivos - the three leads, Zerina, Ulrik and Esara, carried my interest from start to finish.

His ultimate hope is that readers grappling with similar issues may find solace in his stories, realizing that they're not alone, that it's okay to feel the way they do, and that it's important to open up and share. The prose seems to have become less dreadful and character conversations seem more like actual people talking rather than a bunch of action heroes shouting witty one liners. I am both looking forward to the future books but at the same time and begrudge to have to listen to her more. Things don't work out as planned and he and his sister Esara and friend Zerina which is also accused of being a witch and has also lost her two sisters. I could barely follow the characters on their adventure because of all the deaths, I mean people were dropping like flies. This is the second book in the series, though these characters and events save the mentioning of the leader of the "bad guys" had nothing to do with book one. These stories aren't especially long compared to some of the epics I am used to reading and I am quite enjoying the punchy style this author brings to the table.

From beginning to end I was hooked by the characters and seeing them grow and seeing the seeds continue to be planted of a bigger story. When there was action it was good, and I am thankful that there wasn’t a ton of filler, but I also kinda of missed a little more exposition and settling into the story.Though this book doesn’t necessarily move the overarching plot of the whole series on, (it’s more like a parallel book to ‘A Forest of Vanity and Valour’ rather than a sequel) it gives enough that you can see in future books it will all come together.

Esara on the other hand was annoying and a bit 2 dimensional, couldn’t fully get to grip on what age she was supposed to be. No backstory for any character so I couldn't really get a picture of what motivated them, what drove them on their quest. It was a smart choice on the author's part to focus on a totally different character within the world.

Normally you hear people complain about an author padding the story with unnecessary details, but this one feels like entire sections could have been fleshed out for the better. But after witnessing her siblings' cruel deaths, she unleashes her powers for the first time and makes her escape.
