The A5X’s midrange driver is exceptionally lighter than drivers found in competing speakers, covering a range from 400Hz to 20kHZ and permitting a high, uncompressed SPL with superb dispersion. I’d still trust the midrange and overall balance of these models more than many comparably priced studio monitors, but for mixers who (like me) prefer the results that come from using a slightly drier, boxier, or fuller-range speaker, another ADAM model like the flatter A7X may be a better choice. Notably, they don't have any perceived deficiencies, certainly not for their price, nor size. Yet we have to put these things into perspective.

hi Dreambass, yeah Im with you too on the hifi-vs-powered monitors. I think the way we listen to music is changing; many new and interesting ways to evolve a system. The Adam AX5 is a powerful active studio monitor sporting a 5.5" woofer, 1.5" voice coil, 50 Watt PWN amplifier and Adam’s class-leading X-ART tweeter. Designed to provide ultra-clear audio reproduction, the A5X is hailed by many as a fantastic speaker for use in mixing, mastering, sound design and more. The A5X is popular amongst professionals working in television studios and remote broadcast vans, as well as mixing engineers and home-studio producers and songwriters. After discounting speakers with DSP (because I’d rather avoid adding more latency to the chain wherever possible) Genelecs and Focals were pretty much the only choices left outside of passives. Focals seem to have far too many worrying comments about QC/reliability so at that point it was just deciding on the size of Genelec to go for.

I'm now into hifi music and that's my primary use. I'll also use it to watch movies and game. My question is whether the A5X is really that much more revealing or detailed than the T5v? I can't justify extra cost on the things I like more about the A5X unless it's noticeably better in sound quality as well. Many technical innovations in our high end SX-Series are also used in the AX models. The chamfered upper corners of the sturdy cabinet fronts minimize edge diffraction so that phase cancellation is not an issue. The speaker interior is equipped with a special fleece that prevents disturbing internal resonances as well as ensuring a better bass reflex tuning. The power switch and volume control are easily accessible on the front panel for greater ease of use. The front-firing bass ports are very useful as well, allowing the monitors to be set up closer to a wall if need be.

As I write this review, the A5Xs are sitting in their place. They take up less than half the space of the giant Events, but they sound just as big, if not bigger.The ultimate question remains: are 5" drivers enough for electronic music production in my room, or should I simply cut those options from consideration and go for 7"? I simply do not have enough experience to know how drastic of a difference in low end there is.
