In 2013, Weyrfest was folded into Dragon*Con's Fantasy Literature track, along with Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Her only friend is a watch-wher, a somewhat telepathic animal related to dragons, that guards the Hold.

Dragonflight begins the Pern series, and Dragonquest picks up pretty much right where Dragonflight leaves off, but The White Dragon takes place several years and 3 books later, so it can be somewhat jarring if you haven't read the Harper trilogy (the 3 intervening books). While the Holding Lords of Pern are responsible for “tithing”—sending much-needed supplies to the Weyrs—the practice has fallen out of favor. Lessa shares F'lar's opinion that R'gul's policies towards the Lord Holders are bad — resentment of Benden Weyr by the Lord Holders has continued after Fax's death, despite R'gul's attempts to avoid aggravating them.

It features stories about traders, renegades from the traditional life on Pern where safety and comfort were found in stone fortresses known as “Holds.

I was also quite pleased with how well she handled her books pacing since rarely did it feel that the work either dragged or moved too quickly which is a surprising achievement for a first novel (particularly one with so much political wrangling). While her science is light it is acceptable on the level that it is presented, this book is more character and interaction driven and makes full use of that. Dragonflight has a light-colored smudge to the front cover and has some minor smudges to the front and rear endpapers. When she finally comes back to her senses, she is in a mental hospital in Lothar but she doesn’t have memory of what happened. Then again, the dragons themselves, although perhaps not as evident in this book as later in the series are wonderfully real, especially in the descriptions of their various personalities, the practical ways their riders take care of them and especially the discovery of their talents, and when eventually the thread itself does start falling the idea of a mindless, wriggling silver alien life form is profoundly and wonderfully nasty; small wonder it brings so many people together.I do remember talking about where characters were headed in their development, and which characters I liked and disliked. I was relieved to see Lessa, for once, appropriately clad for dragonriding on the cover of Dragonflight. The second segment, "Dragonrider", appeared in two parts, beginning in December 1967, and was also a cover story illustrated by Schoenherr.

This was a central part of the story, but Michael had featured the heroine and a crystal in a mystical pose on the first cover and didn’t want to repeat himself. Wear at edges, reading creases, some creases on book, some soiling, rubbed, light interior browning. On realizing what is being done, she helps him recover his senses and they both escape the institution. The mystery in the plot is often created only by the author arbitrarily withholding information by one of the main characters.Despite this warning, F'lar and Lessa decide to proceed with the plan anyway, in the hope that they'll get at least one clutch out of Prideth — plus, it ensures that her Weyrwoman, Kylara, who Lessa dislikes due to her coveting F'lar, is out of the Weyr. In 2001, a video game Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern was created by Ubisoft for the PC and Dreamcast under license from Zyntopo Teoranta, the Irish corporation which owns the motion picture, gaming and ancillary rights. The first two graphic novels were illustrated by Lela Dowling and Fred Von Tobel, the third by Lela Dowling and Cynthia Martin. Without warning, F'nor quickly arrives to tell them their plan isn't working; everybody is too strained by the effort of being in «two places at once».
