I'm really hoping this happens, but picture seems to be the same as the upcoming UK release minus the rating logos. It's unfortunate that I feel the need to vent about All Quiet on the Western Front because in many respects it's a very well made film that is maybe a bit derivative in some aspects (the score is quite striking but reminds me a lot of the late Jóhann Jóhannson) but nevertheless succesfully updates the WW1 battlefield to modern sensibilities without sacrificing the horror, from the pre-title sequence to the recruitment and the first battle I thought it was excellent stuff. A short time later, a newly-arrived German recruit that Paul had saved in the combat finds Paul's mud-caked body and picks up Franz's scarf, but not the dog tag that acts as the identifier of dead soldiers. The film received positive reviews with praise directed towards its tone, the cinematography, the makeup, the performances, Volker Bertelmann's musical scores, Berger's direction, and the relevant anti-war message, [4] however critics were divided over the film's faithfulness to Remarque's source material, [5] with several key sequences from the novel being omitted or altered. The audience knows this peace could possibly offer Paul and his friends safety, as well as a future, the one Paul once dreamed of full of military glory; yet it seems unattainable no matter the move toward a cease fire.
