Sample products are made as a representation of the finished product and are usually only made in one or two sizes. It also doesn’t have internal pockets which annoys me (hence my interest in this thread as I’m looking for similar, I also want a detachable hood).

I was looking for a totally waterproof jacket with some level of insulation, after being out in an absolute deluge for over an hour, the Gortex simply rolled the rain into small droplets and they rolled off leaving the jacket completely dry, I deliberately went a size up to allow my super insulated down jacket to fit underneath, the insulation is OK but maybe I feel the cold these days and the jacket is very light weight. The Phase XT has been designed with a robust feature set for mountaineering, climbing, and ski touring. Montane Duality (or non-Lite, ignore the RRP) seemed to fit the bill, but the sizing doesn’t work for me. This reliable, versatile waterproof is perfect for a wide range of activities - from everyday adventures to walking and hiking in the hills.Also it’s targeted at and popular with people who like camouflage and wearing the same gear as security and military supposedly wear etc. Meanwhile, the Pertex Quantum inner 'is super lightweight and packable and is also slippy to make it easy for pulling on over other garments.
