About this deal

The Cybermats (or rather the single Cybermat which appeared) went through a radical re-design and resembled a cybernetic silverfish. In their first appearances in The Tomb of the Cybermen and The Wheel in Space, they were realised in the studio by a variety of techniques, including clockwork and radio-controlled models. I have new appreciation for his acting chops; allowing for just a bit of period-normal cliché, I could easily have believed he was really of Mexican origin in the second role.

Charley’s life support system is damaged, but Jansen gives Charley her own helmet, sacrificing herself. Also, it should be noted that it requires a fairly flat surface / short carpet; not problem in our house, but could be for some. They do not suffer the weakness to gold, as the Doctor discovers; I can only assume that the modified respiratory system is a later innovation, though it seems like a step backward here.

The same model proved vulnerable to the sonic screwdriver, which was able to either stun or fry the Cybermat memory.

The Doctor and Nyssa borrow wine from Allan, who is now despondent at the end result of her work, and use it to contaminate the Cyber-Planner’s nutrient feed. To my knowledge, all of Doctor Who contains four variations on the Cybermen (and if I’ve missed any, feel free to let me know): The Mondasian Cybermen, the first edition, if you will; the Telosian Cybermen, the descendants of the Mondasian; the Cybus Industries Cybermen of NuWho, as first seen in Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel; and the Cybermen seen in several later NuWho episodes, who are purportedly a hybridization of the original Cybermen and the surviving Cybus Cybermen. It’s a salvage ship, and we never see any indication that it is part of a larger organization; so, when it says she was newly transferred, I have to ask, by whom? All audio dramas featured in this series may be purchased from Big Finish Productions; link to this story’s purchase page is below. The figure, actually the Fourth Doctor, eventually caught and smashed the crocodile, actually a Cybermat, before disappearing in his Punch and Judy box. I noted that the Ice Warriors use sonic guns as their primary weapons; sure would be nice if the Doctor had some kind of sonic device to counter that…nah, that’s just crazy talk.

Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. Just as they reach the compartment containing the TARDIS, the engines cut off in midflight, which the Doctor considers dangerous. With The Ice Warriors, we get the introduction of another great villain, the titular Ice Warriors from Mars. The Vanguard crew hears it as well, and splits up; Kelsey finds the TARDIS, but then is attacked by an unseen figure. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

Along with the CyberTelosians, these Cybermats lay dormant until Telos was found by the Brotherhood of Logicians.Somewhere, an explorer named Donald Philpott steps onto a planet’s surface, the first in many years to do so.
