About this deal

Best-Selling author Ian Moore is also a stand-up comedian and conference host in the UK, and husband, father of three boys, farmhand, chutney-maker and Basil Fawlty impersonator in France. In this third book of the Follet Murder Mystery Series, I’m finding myself more drawn to this pair and the other reoccurring characters in the series. I have read all of the Follet Valley books and have enjoyed them all immensely, however if I have one complaint it is that this book was not as laugh out loud funny as the others hence the 4 star only this time. When a series of mysterious events unfold around the renowned cheese-producing town of Gaillard, Monsieur Pamplemousse finds himself entangled in a peculiar case involving stolen cheese, unexplained deaths, and a web of intrigue.

When one of the actors dies, the pair suspect foul play, and set about getting to the bottom of things with a mixture of skill (Valérie) and blind luck (Richard). Richard and Valerie find themselves first intrigued and then investigating when the crew takes over the Chateau and bad things ensue. Full of wit, sarcasm, humour and a whole lot of impossible situations, Death at the Chateau is another fantastic read for cosy murder mystery fans. This terrific novel is the perfect antidote to forget for a few joyful hours the depressing world we live in! To get to the bottom of things, Valerie d'Orcay and Richard offer catering services to the hastily resumed production.

Book 1: "Death and Fromage": In the first installment, readers are introduced to Monsieur Pamplemousse, a sharp-witted detective and food critic, and his lovable canine companion, Pommes Frites. Tasked with writing a glowing review of a luxurious hotel, the duo stumbles upon a perplexing murder that sends them into a world of secrets and treachery. The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened.

His characterisations of Richard as an Englishman, from the point of view of the French, and a man from the point of view of women is just brilliant (to borrow Valérie's constant refrain). The novel is told from his point of view, so much of the humour comes from his reactions to the notably more volatile Valérie and his desire to underplay life in general. Richard had a great sense of humour and use of sarcasm which works really well with Valerie’s personality. It is finely paced, truly funny and written with a wry detachment that conjures up a gentler age of murder mystery' * The Times * 'Bloody and funny.

Both mysteries had an interesting ending, and I cannot choose a favorite - unique and unexpected endings, you see. Death at the Chateau combined all my favourite bits of cosy mysteries; great characters, chaotic moments and hilarity! To get to the bottom of things, Valerie Dorcay and Richard offer catering services to the hastily resumed production. It's a book in a "Thursday Murder Club" style, but still something totally different, offering both British and French humor.

I have now read all three Follet Valley mysteries and I have to say that I have never ever read anything quite so entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny! Another guest, the exotic Valérie, persuades a reluctant Richard to join her in investigating the disappearance.
