About this deal

Now a year later I have put about 1,500 miles on them and they show some wear but I believe they are good for another 1,500 before needing to be resoled. the stitching is neat, the trimming and finishing on the sole is well done, and the leather has a nice finish. And yes I understand these boots are not water proof but a Goodyear welted boot if done right is very very water resistant. Having worn hybrid boots (part leather, part synthetic) for the last couple of years, putting on a full-grain leather boot feels quite “abrupt”. Instead upon receipt of the boots I put them on and went out on a three mile (5 kilometers) urban walk about.

mm braided nylon cordOR sole: genuine rubber wedge sole for best grip, comfort and speed on sandy areas, longer days on foot, speed hikes and urban areas. Sure, modern synthetic or hybrid boots are lighter and more breathable, but a beautifully-made leather boot is unbeatable when it comes to aesthetics and durability. However, after just a few hours of wearing it around the office, the leather started conforming to my feet and I found myself grinning for no reason – the magic of a leather boot. Leather fibres burn easily – especially when wet and therefore should never be left near a heater, placed in your oven or left in direct sunlight. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Better to err on the slightly larger size, as the full lacing allows cinching up tight for a custom fit, and thicker socks are normally worn with type boot. Today, 15 years later I rediscovered the brand and purchased a pair of Razorbacks and what an absolute joy its been!

Its double layer of leather upper combines with a pure rubber sole to give you superior stability, comfort and grip. To the best of my knowledge the creasing/grain break could just be an issue with my pair, but ultimately it’s a non-issue for me- I bought these to be work boots and hikers so I don’t expect them to be pretty anyway. After a long day in wet conditions and you requiring your boots early the next morning, the worst possible solution is to artificially dry your boots. But combined with the initial treatments of saddle soap, allowing the 'soap' to first fill the creases, seams and sole to leather seams protecting the 'glue' then later applications of pure neatsfoot oil does nothing but good. The minimal padding around the ankle collar allows the leather to conform to one’s ankle and protect against dangerous amounts of flex. I worked in these boots an entire day in dry dusty conditions and they held up perfectly just dusted them off and got them ready for the next day.

The padded collar and tongue (with high gussets) do a great job of keeping seed pods, burrs, and other debris out. They are initially quite stiff, due to the fairly thick double layer construction and the heavy rubber unit lug sole, but soften up after a few weeks of casual wear, and a few short hikes. I can’t recommend these boots enough for someone who likes wearing a tough looking and tough wearing boot.Given the durability and quality of the Jim Green upper, most people find they wear the sole away numerous times before the upper eventually gives way. With a good coat of SnoSeal or similar beeswax based sealant on the leather and all seams these are highly water resistant, good for tromping through mud, puddles and streams but not wading. I collect many boots and saw my favorite YouTube Rose Anvil give a quick review of one of their other boots and I wanted to give them a try.

Tough as Africa - built to last The Jim Green Razorback boot is inspired by Africa, designed to take on the daily outdoor and work challenges that come with the harsh terrain. Wore them around the house for a couple days then took them out into the mud and rocks of Pennsylvania. Think carefully about whether you really need this product, because we want you to wear them for a long time. I developed a large blister on the back of the right heel as well as a small blister on the top of the right toe. I have other boots to include my Air Force flying boots which are also very sturdy and great quality as well as my Wolverine’s and they break in and are comfortable. Also, I kept the original insole which is a thin piece of leather on top, under that is some compressed material, and under that (in the heel only) is a rectangle piece of poron. South African footwear manufacturer, Jim Green, makers of the rugged, no-nonsense Razorbacks, have a second hiking boot in their line-up: The Monster Waterproof Boot. If you like minimalist shoes and wide toe boxes, these are great, the feel is similar to Lems (a little less room, bot for the ruggedness of this boot, it is a very minimal compromise for what you get). For over 30 years, the Jim Green Razorback has been the choice of South Africa’s’ safari lodges and outdoor enthusiast. I know Razorback from a friend, the only shoes he owned, worn it everyday washed it more aften, walked in the mud for 3 years in college, i have known him from 2016 till now he has it intact.
