About this deal

In any case, it's still one of my favorite unexpected releases of this year, despite its performance. While it clearly represents a different time, it has some underlying amber, vanilla and sandalwood that makes the rounds in modern and niche offerings of today.

I realise that recreating the original KL won’t bring my mother back, but it would be lovely to have her scent back in my life. Initially I felt a fizzy lemony note, something like lemon candy powder, but this may be a combination of lavander, cedar and vanilla playing with my childhood memories of candied cedar in panettone and other cakes my grandma used to make. As much as it is considered, especially these days, as dated and the starting point for many releases that came later, its biggest challenge was breaking down gender barriers, something that is already difficult today and was much more in the '70s.There was no tester available but I just bought it because I remembered very well how it used to smell. It becomes its own signature smell the same way like Fahreinheit, Ted Lapidus Pour Homme or Egoiste do.

I remember the smell of the oldest version I knew (probably at the time of Unilever, in the late '90s), and its much more leathery and powdery smell. Still, I wouldn't recommend it for very close encounters: this is NOT a netflix-n-chill kinda scent as the journey to the dry-down can be a tad off-putting if you bury your nose in it. I kept it ever since, using it a few times until I realized it was discontinued, opening it every now and then to catch a memory of my pops. Personally, I do not like overbearing animalic musk, but the musk note in Lagerfeld Classic is very enjoyable coupled with the other notes, especially the tobacco, and oriental. Now that I've had this for well over a year (see my review below) I want to add a few notes for those considering a purchase. As long as I can find this (in older formulations, so I can get more oakmoss), this will have a beloved place in my perfume "library.

almost has a Fleer's/Chappie's bubblegum quality, given its prominent vanilla/tonka wedded to wintergreen (methyl salicylate). Therefore, I put it away in the wardrobe waiting for the arrival of the season in which the temperatures drop, the leaves fall, and everything is coloured with yellowish, reddish, and amber reflections. This poor guy is like a fairy race in True Blood; chained in a basement, sucked dry by vampires, went extinct, and plagiarized silly by lab made true blood beverages. It lacks the screechy 'aftershave' note that many fragrances for men have, so I think in that sense it is "unisex". Must be a particular concept of masculinity (applied in several other male scents), these days of so widepread health awareness very outdated.
