About this deal

She is so happy and it has calmed her down, she has been so hyper and anxious the last few days, but your magic has worked wonders. Again Du Beke maintains his authentic grasp of the period era adding real substance to the romantic liaisons and dramas of another year in the hotel. And upstairs, Vivienne Edgerton is desperate to do something worthwhile with her time and her step-father's money, rather than spending it on dresses and frivolities - but will this land her back in trouble? As the political landscape is changing, the Buckingham Hotel stands firm in its resolve to remain unchanged. Now when I go in they make suggestions of books they think I may enjoy and even keep books to one side for me if I'm not about for a day or two.

Nancy is finally feeling settled and at home in the Buckingham but has dreams of achieving so much more. But a lot can happen on the dancefloor - whispered conversations, secret relationships, clandestine messages passed - and Raymond soon finds himself in a position of both power and danger.

It is made so dramatic by an excellent feeling for character and the twists and turns of fortune that affect their lives. To be frank, I probably would have liked this because I love Strictly, enjoy the entity that is Mr Du Beke and am a tad partial to a meaty historical saga, however, I am delighted to say, with all sincerity, this is a very enjoyable read. But with Miss Edgerton having other more benevolent ideas about how to spend her lavish allowance, Maynard Charles can only hope it does nothing to detract attention from his mission to impress American businessman and potential investor, John Hastings Junior. The story is set in 1937 and staged around the prestigious Buckingham Hotel in London with most of the characters being staff. I’ll be booking my suite again for next year at Buckingham Hotel and I can’t wait to catch up with Raymond De Guise, Nancy and all the other endearing and captivating characters. Du Beke’s understanding of the prevailing economic and political backdrop brings much to the story and the growing threats of war and its devastating implications imbue the story with a spirit of ceasing the moment in a perilous world. Shaken by the Great Depression and withtalk of another war coming, the Buckingham Hotel is trying to regain some stability.

I wouldn't recommend reading this unless you've read the first novel in the series, One Enchanted Evening. The staff and guests of the Buckingham soon discover that in a hotel full of secrets, there’s always someone listening . Trading Address (Warehouse) Unit E, Vulcan Business Complex, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EB.Upstairs, Vivienne Edgerton is desperate to do something worthwhile with her time and her stepfather’s money, rather than spending it on frivolity and debauchery – but will this land her in even more trouble? I tried to ration how much I read in one reading session as I wanted to prolong my enjoyment of the book but I was enjoying the book too darn much to stick to my ration. The sequel to his best-selling One Enchanted Evening, its setting is the Buckingham, a luxurious hotel where the elite rub shoulders with more ordinary folk on the dance floors of the impressive Grand Ballroom.

Not only is the hotel without its principal benefactor since King Edward’s abdication but the Buckingham is seeking new investment with the looming threat of war. He draws you into the story from the first word on the first page and keeps your attention through the story. Continuity and change are key themes throughout the book and I felt that Anton du Beke treats these subjects sensitively.

And with another instalment in the pipeline I can only recommend readers follow this one from the start! It's impossible to read about Raymond the king of the ballroom without picturing him as Anton himself!
