The beer is brewed with four different kinds of malt and two aromatic varieties of hop which give the beer its inimitable taste.

It is the flagship beer produced by the oldest brewery in Bruges’ inner city, known for its Brugse Zot Blond and Donker (Dark). The people of Bruges owe their nickname 'Brugse Zotten' to these legendary words of Emperor Maximilian of Austria. It is joined by The Warehouse Taproom, Bar and Restaurant , a fantastic venture which allows us to showcase our superb drinks range, with an accompaniment of great dishes.This traditional Witbier (Wheat beer) has been developed in cooperation with Master Brewer Pierre Celis, the Godfather of Hoegaarden and Celis White. Its brewer is the oldest in Bruges, based in its historic city centre, and also well known for its . Made with the same yeast it has hints of banana and clove, but on top of that the roasted and caramel malts and flavours of raisins, dates and figs to make for a gorgeous dark, sticky dubbel-style beer with a surprisingly clean finish. When Maximilian came to Bruges in 1488 to suppress the rebellion, the people of Bruges took the emperor as a prisoner.

It is made in Bruges by the Halve Maan Brewery using 4 different malts to give it a distinctive big body and sweet malt character, while the unique yeast adds notes of banana and plum. Brugse Zot also goes through a re-fermentation that helps develop the taste while it’s in the bottle. Brugse Zot, a city beer for Bruges brewed by De Halve Maan, was launched in 2005 by Xavier Vanneste, but its name harks back to the late Middle Ages, when the Emperor Maximilian of Austria visited Bruges. De Halve Maan Brewery is located in the heart of Bruges, home to beer brands such as Brugse Zot, Straffe hendrik and Blanches De Bruges.
